Manchester United may have been tagged as a team struggling in front of goal but they have scored more league goals than all but two teams in the top flight this season. However, that is not convincing Jose Mourinho enough, who now wants to add to his striking options this January transfer window.
The Red Devils spent big on Romelu Lukaku at the start of the season but halfway through the campaign, they are in dire need of another striker. One name that is now doing the rounds of Old Trafford is Leicester City star, Jamie Vardy.
Transfer Story:
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Manchester United are desperate to add a backup to the Belgian ace this month. They are looking at some exciting prospects but West Ham United star Javier Hernandez and English international Jamie Vardy are at the top of the wish list for the Portuguese manager.
Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is also another option but Vardy could be the easiest to lure to Old Trafford, midway through the campaign. But is he the right man for the club?
Jamie Vardy And His Records:
The Premier League winner with the Foxes in the 2015-16 season, Vardy currently holds the record of scoring in most consecutive top-flight games and has established himself as one of the best strikers in England at the moment.
He has been with Leicester City since 2012 and has been an integral part of their promotion. But he only rose to prominence with a sensational 24-goal season in 2015-16. He backed it up with 13 goals last season and now has nine goals and an assist in 21 league starts this season.
Quick and smart with his movements in and around the penalty box, Vardy is a sublime finisher, who rarely misses a chance. He is known for his attitude on the pitch and never gives up, even in a lost cause. He is a hard-working player, whose dribbling and hold up play are perfect for the English game. He has established himself as a top goal scorer in the English top flight and will easily improve the quality at Old Trafford.
Chances At Old Trafford:
However, he may not be able to walk into the starting eleven at Manchester United and will only have to play as a backup for Lukaku. Vardy does have it in him to oust the Belgian in the first team but just months before the World Cup, he will not want to take that risk.
However, though he has already won a league title, at 30, he will now want to win as much as possible and will be tempted to shift to Manchester, in search of some glory. The likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are the only other competitors for this role in the side but both players have been preferred on the wing, leaving Vardy with a free route to challenge for the starting spot.
Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic will still have a role to play later in the season but at the moment, he is still injured and is unavailable at least until the end of the month. So having to balance three different competitions, Mourinho will be tempted to sign Vardy, who is surely a better option than Chicharito.
But do you think he is the best option for the Red Devils?
