Having decided to off-load an unsettled Philippe Coutinho this transfer window, Merseyside outfit Liverpool are now in the transfer market for a midfielder, to improve their strength in the centre of the pitch. The manager is looking at some of the finest players in Europe, as the club now have the cash to spend and one player now on their radar is Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman.
Liverpool enquire about Strootman:
Italian outfit AS Roma sold star winger Mohamed Salah to Liverpool in the summer to balance their books and might be forced to do something similar yet again and Liverpool are reportedly looking to take advantage yet again! Italian publication Premium Sport has now reported that the Reds have made an official enquiry about Strootman recently.
It is understood that Roma are ready to sell at the right price and Liverpool are pondering over making a move for him before the end of the month.
Strootman And His Style Of Play:
A transfer target for Manchester United for more than a couple of years now, the 27-year old is a product of the Sparta Rotterdam academy in the Netherlands. He made a name for himself in his time at PSV Eindhoven but moved to AS Roma back in 2013, only to become an instant hero.
He is one of the most adored players in the Italian capital and has 84 Serie A appearances to add to 132 Eredivisie outings in his career. He is the skipper of his national side and has 39 international caps and is an established midfielder, at the highest level.
A defensive midfielder by trait, Strootman is adept at controlling the tempo of the game and loves to be on the front foot and dominate the opponents. He is a natural leader and will marshal his troops, sitting just in front of the backline, but is more than capable of creating chances at the other end.
Aggressive with his approach and strong in hold up play, he is quick to make interceptions and set his team off on counter attacks but is also effective when his side need to sit back and see out games. He does have a slightly dodgy injury history but his quality, by and large, overshadows it.
Chances at Anfield:
At just 27, he is yet to hit his peak and the Reds will be ecstatic if he spends his prime as a footballer at Anfield. He is just the kind of a player that the Liverpool faithful are crying out for and it is imperative that Liverpool buy a player who plays a similar role.
Skipper Jordan Henderson and German star Emre Can are the only options in the deep-lying role in midfield for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Strootman is a genuine upgrade on both those names. He may take time to settle into the English conditions and is also cup-tied but his addition will surely make Liverpool a stronger side.
