Crystal Palace still in race to sign prolific Championship striker: Why he will be a great addition

The difference in points between the sides placed in the lower half of the Premier League table is quite negligible. The prospect of being plunged into the relegation zone is real for all of them and Crystal Palace are no exception. The Eagles might have garnered a resurrection in their form after the appointment of Roy Hodgson earlier this season but it goes without saying that there is still a lot of work to be done.

Crystal Palace are currently placed at the 13th spot in the league table with 25 points to their name after 24 league fixtures, which means that they are just 3 points above the danger zone. Finding the back of the net has really been an issue for them this season as they have mustered merely 22 goals so far in the Premier League. Impliedly, beefing up the attacking arsenal must be one of the areas Hodgson must be concentrating on.

There is not much time left before the transfer window shuts down and the London based side must act quickly. As per one of the latest reports by Evening Standard, Crystal Palace are attempting to push forward a deal to sign Preston North End striker, Jordan Hugill, before the transfer window shuts down.

Hugill has been in dazzling form for Preston North End so far this campaign, having banged 10 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions. He has been an instrumental player for the Lilywhites, and it is understood that a price tag of £10million has been slapped on his collar, which is quite remarkable considering that he was signed for just £25,000 in 2014.

The big name strikers Crystal Palace have in their arsenal have flattered to deceive and Christian Benteke, in particular, has found it hard to have the impact that was expected of him. Hodgson’s side need a striker who is in form and could bring more competition for a place in the starting line-up and thus, they would strike gold if they manage to sign Hugill.

The 25-year-old is clinical in front of goal and is always on the lookout for an opportunity to score. He is a cunning player in the final third and makes the most of the chances he receives. Besides, he links up well with his teammates in the offensive half and if Crystal Palace manage to lure him to the Selhurst Park, he could inject the freshness they need at the moment.
