Newcastle United Desperate For In-Form Turkish Attacker: The Solution To Their Goal Scoring Woes?

Rafa Benitez has made a mediocre start to his latest stint in the Premier League with Newcastle United this season as his side stands in the 15th place, just five points above the drop zone. They have now picked up just a point in the last six league games and the manager is seriously considering making changes to the squad in January.

The Magpies could be one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market, depending on the change of their ownership and it does not come as a surprise that they are linked with some of the finest stars in Europe. One such player extensively linked with a move to the Tyne-side is in-form Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun.

Tosun and his record:

The Turkish international was scarcely known in the footballing world just two years ago but his form in the last 18 months has turned him into one of the most exciting talents in Europe and he is attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in the continent.

Having scored 20 goals last season, Tosun was a wanted man even in the summer but Besiktas managed to keep hold of him beyond the deadline day. However, he has 13 goals this season, which include 4 goals in 5 UCL outings, making him the most attractive player in the January transfer market.

A genuine goal scorer with exceptional finishing, Tosun is a CF, who can put in a shift on the wing. He loves to play on the shoulder of the last defender and his movements inside the box are just too good to handle, for even the best of the defenders. His touch and technique give him an edge over opponents while his work rate and understanding of the game improve the quality of the whole side.

Should Rafa spend on him?

The Magpies have now scored just five goals in their last six league outings and just 14 in 15 games the whole season. Ciaran Clark, Dwight Gayle, Joselu and Jamaal Lascelles are the top scorers for the side, with two goals apiece. So it is clear that they are in desperate need of a goal scorer and Tosun can certainly change the entire picture at the club.

He will definitely be the first choice attacker for Rafa and though he has no previous experience in England, Tosun’s attributes will make him a hit in the Premier League, without too much delay. He is a player who can solve problems impending at the club and is definitely a player they should look to sign.

Will It Happen?

But the problem for the English outfit is the fact that the likes of Juventus and Everton are also monitoring him and it is inevitable that Besiktas will sell him to the highest bidder.

The likes of Danny Ings, Fernando Torres and Islam Slimani have been linked with a move to the club and though Tosun, who is at the top of his game, will remain Rafa’s priority, the above-mentioned names will be on their radar, should they miss out on the Turk.
