Liverpool Continue To Be Linked With Gabonese Goal Scoring Machine: Do They Actually Need Him?

After the shambolic display at Wembley, Liverpool have managed to stitch together a run of results which sees them occupying a spot in the top 4 currently. Jurgen Klopp will be happy with the performance of his side in recent games but with the January transfer window coming up, the manager might have a tough time with his squad.

While he will look to add certain players to his lineup, Klopp might also lose a couple and one such player, who is now extensively linked with an exit is Daniel Sturridge. Reports claim that Liverpool are ready to let the English international leave in January, to give him enough time to earn a place on the flight to Russia for the World Cup next year.

The report also claims that if Liverpool let go of their English striker, they are ready to pounce on Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

Transfer story:

According to an exclusive from The Express, the Gabon international, who was linked with an exit from the Iduna Park in the summer, is now unsettled at his club and is ready to look for a new club, come January. Aubameyang has been suspended for disciplinary reasons on two occasions already this year and Borussia Dortmund are expected to listen to offers in January.

They also claim that Klopp has no issues with Sturridge but is ready to let him leave in search of first-team action. They go on to report that the German manager will look to sign one of his former players in Aubameyang, to replace Sturridge in the squad at Anfield.

Aubameyang and his record:

Having only made a name for himself at Dortmund, the 28-year old has always been a prolific goal scorer, who can find the back of the net from different angles and ranges. He has 11 goals and two assists in 12 domestic appearances this season and has 96 goals and 21 assists in 140 top-flight appearances, in all his career in Germany.

Pace and dribbling are his biggest assets after his finishing and he is a player who has already worked under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund. Aubameyang is a hard worker, who will work his socks off to get goals for his side and most top clubs in Europe would love to have on their side for the rest of the season.

Should Liverpool go all in?

Klopp already has a formidable attacking lineup at his disposal. Daniel Sturridge, who might quit the club come January is only a back up to Roberto Firmino in the first team and Aubameyang, who might replace him, is an actual upgrade on the English international. He can surely replace him in the squad at Anfield but it will be interesting to see if Klopp decides to abolish the false9 system with Firmino up top, to get Aubameyang playing regularly.

The Gabon international is likely to come cheap, but might not be happy with a backup role and the fact that they have the likes of Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings just waiting in the ranks, Auba may not be as much of a requirement for them at the moment.

But the fact that they can even think about passing up an opportunity to sign one of the best strikers in world football at the moment shows the progress Liverpool have made from the start of the season and it is a position they will love to stay in for the rest of Klopp’s time at the club.
