A Tight Affair In London: Arsenal Players Rated In Their Draw Against Chelsea

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal managed to steal a point from their trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday but they will feel that they could have taken more, after a creative performance in the first half. Chelsea failed to assert themselves on the game and though they came close to beating Petr Cech a couple of times, were hardly good enough to take more than a point.

Brazil star David Luiz picked up a late red for an unfortunate challenge on Sead Kolasinac but it had no effect on the game as both London clubs shared a point each. Here are the player ratings for the Gunners in this game:

Petr Cech (6):

Made a couple of decent saves and dominated his box well as Chelsea struggled to create enough chances on the night.

Laurent Koscielny (7):

Stuck to his task well on the night and was rarely tested by an off-colour Chelsea attack.

Shkodran Mustafi (7):

Was always on the shoulder of Alvaro Morata, giving him no space and time and also scored a goal that was later ruled off-side. A productive outing for the German.

Nacho Monreal (6):

Was caught out of position a couple of times but managed to avert the danger and did well to keep Chelsea at bay.

Hector Bellerin (7):

Made a couple of exciting moves in the final third in the first half and managed to hold his fort in the second in a complete performance from the Spaniard.

Aaron Ramsey (8):

One of his best performances in recent times, where he constantly troubled Chelsea’s back-line and almost scored after a mazy run.

Granit Xhaka (6):

Lost possession a couple of times but was a solid presence in the middle of the park, outmuscling the Chelsea midfield on more than one occasion.

Sead Kolasinac (6):

Got David Luiz sent off and almost got himself sent off in an eventful night for the Bosnian who felt the full wrath of the Premier League.

Alex Iwobi (6):

Did no harm to his reputation as he acted as the line between the midfield and attack and stuck to his strengths, before being subbed off.

Danny Welbeck (6):

Was unable to replicate his form from the previous games but created a few problems for the Chelsea defence none the less.

Alexandre Lacazette (5):

Bullied by Luiz, Lacazette missed a sitter on the night and failed to act as the spearhead for Arsenal, like they wanted him to when they broke their transfer record for him in the summer.

Subs:

Alexis Sanchez (7):

Improved Arsenal’s urgency in the second half, creating a number of chances but just did not do well enough to win his side the game.

Olivier Giroud (6):

Added strength and height to the attacking lineup and a made a couple of sublime passes but like Sanchez, failed, to find the winner.

Mohamed Elneny:

A substitution made by Wenger after he decided to go home with a point.
