Liverpool Player Ratings Vs Leicester City: Can And Wijnaldum Can Do A Lot Better

Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool continue to entertain, as they played out yet another high-scoring thriller at the King Power Stadium this past weekend. The Reds went two up in the first half, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho but Shinji Okazaki cut the advantage to half, just before the break.

Daniel Sturridge came on as a sub and squared Jordan Henderson for Liverpool’s third with 20 minutes to spare but just minutes later, Jamie Vardy managed to put the ball past Simon Mignolet for the second time, to get back on Liverpool’s tale. The Belgian also conceded a penalty, right after Vardy’s goal, which he managed to save, to earn his side all three points. Here are the player ratings for the Reds in this tie:

Simon Mignolet (4)

Had a couple of bizarre moments, which almost cost his side, but saved the penalty that he gave and held on to a victory.

Joe Gomez (5)

Was caught out of position on more than one occasion but did well to win most balls in the air.

Joel Matip (6)

Gave away a couple of unnecessary fouls but was often on top of Leicester City attackers on a productive night.

Dejan Lovren (5)

Started the game in a nervous manner which played to Jamie Vardy’s hands but held on well late in the game to earn his side all three points.

Alberto Moreno (7)

Growing in stature by the game this season, Moreno hardly put a foot wrong and did well to marshal both ends of the field.

Jordan Henderson (7)

Was pro-active all game and also managed to score a goal, which turned out to be the winner.

Emre Can (5)

Had a couple of brain-freeze moments in the middle of the pitch but used his physical presence well to keep Leicester midfield at bay.

Georginio Wijnaldum (5)

Could have done a lot better with the transition in midfield but was solid whenever he was needed to track back.

Mohamed Salah (8)

Opened the scoring on the night minutes after missing a sitter and was a constant outlet on the flank, right till the final whistle.

Roberto Firmino (6)

Did well to fight for the ball against Morgan and Maguire and was a constant threat in the final third for the Foxes.

Philippe Coutinho (8)

A man of the match performance from the Brazilian, who picked up a goal from a sumptuous free-kick along with an assist in the first half, to get his side to a great start in the game.

SUBSTITUTES

James Milner (6)

Came on to add mettle to the midfield and did well to help Liverpool see off the game.

Daniel Sturridge (7)

Made all the difference for Liverpool in the second half as his movement and trickery were too good for Leicester. Picked up an assist for Henderson’s goal.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (6)

Added some energy late in the game to help Liverpool to victory.
