West Ham United were not off to a great start to their Premier League campaign as they were thrashed at Old Trafford by a sparkling Manchester United side in the first game of the season for both sides. Slaven Bilic has made a couple of decent signings this summer but the result is an indication that he needs further additions to the squad this summer.
This has seen him linked with an array of stars recently and the latest name doing the rounds is Celtic star Moussa Dembele.
West Ham submits official bid
The French sensation is one of the most exciting players in world football at the moment and has been extensively linked with a move to England for a while now. And reports from French news outfit say that the Celtic ace is a top transfer target for AS Monaco, who want him to replace Kylian Mbappe this summer and that they face stiff competition for the Hammers, who have already made a bid.
So what will Dembele add to the squad at West Ham if Bilic is able to pull this off?
Dembele, the goal scoring machine
Born and brought up in Pontoise, France, the 21-year old spent eight years of his youth career at PSG before he moved to English club Fulham, where he established himself in the first team. He picked up 15 goals in 56 league appearances in the domestic circuit in England and was picked up by Celtic just last summer.
In his first season in Scotland, Dembele scored 17 goals and picked up eight assists, helping Brendan Rodgers’ side to a domestic treble last season. He picked up 32 goals in total last season and was one of the most productive attackers in the European leagues. He has four goals in six appearances for the French U21 side and is a player known for his deadly finishing.
Strong in the air and smart with his movements, Dembele is a gifted finisher who can create and finish goals on a consistent basis. He is adept at creating space for himself in the final third and loves to hold the ball up in the final third, making him perfect for the English play.
But is he the right man for West Ham?
The Hammers have already spent on Javier Hernandez this summer and with the likes of Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew also options to the lead the attack of the side, it is hard to see Dembele walk into the first team.
The Mexican international Chicharito is expected to be the first choice while Sakho, Ayew and Carroll add different dimensions in attack, making West Ham a dynamic side. Bilic is better off trying to spend on a wide winger, who can add width to the squad, as he already has enough cover for the centre forward role at the club.
