Transfer story
West Bromwich Albion have had a dream start in the Premier League so far, with two out of two. With the transfer window set to close soon, they will look to add more depth to their side to potentially challenge for a top eight place. And if reports by Daily Mail are anything to go by, then they could strike a deal for Tottenham star Vincent Janssen.
His rise up the ranks
Janssen moved to Eredivisie side AZ in 2015, signing a contract with the club until 2019. He set the stage on fire as a young bloke taking centre stage by scoring 27 goals in 34 appearances.
Before that, he was in Almere City where he netted 29 out of 69 times. He was awarded the 2016 Johan Cruyff Trophy, the Dutch “Talent of the Year” award. On 12 July 2016, Janssen joined Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur for 17 million pounds.
Little did he know how horrendous a season he would have with Spurs, whose manager initially believed that Janssen ticked all boxes for a centre-forward. He has scored 6 goals in 35 appearances for them, most of them coming off the bench.
What’ll he offer the club?
Vincent Janssen is a gifted finisher and has all this tricks up his sleeve. West Brom need a striker who is good and quick on the ball. He possesses the vision of a playmaker, loves making key passes and can contribute by dropping deeper.
He would enhance the strength of an already solid Baggies side. A goal or two early on, and his confidence will be back. The youngster is a confidence player, someone who scored 20 goals in half a season in the Dutch league and Tony Pulis might be the right man for a much-needed boost to his career.
Worth it?
He isn’t a bad striker to have. West Brom have Hal Robson-Kanu, someone who shows glimpses of magic and lacks consistency. They also have Jay Rodriguez, a player with high reputation but no form to back it up at the moment as had suffered injury after injury in the last few seasons.
Solomon Rondon is a heck of a threat in the box, but Janssen is more gifted technically than him. But 4 strikers? They might have to concentrate more on a creative player who can provide service to their front men.
