Tottenham Hotspur have made a mixed start to their Premier League campaign winning and losing a game each. Mauricio Pochettino, who has been quite for most of the transfer window, is now looking for potential additions that can improve the squad before the deadline day and has been linked with some of the finest stars in world football at the moment.
However, one player he is now keeping tabs on is Alfred Duncan.
Spurs make official enquiry
The London outfit are desperate to improve particular positions in the squad and this has seen them linked with unique stars this transfer window. And according to reports from Italy, they are now ready to battle it out for promising midfielder Alfred Duncan for a move this summer.
Also linked with a move back to Inter Milan, Duncan is expected to cost close to £14m and will be a superb coup for Spurs.
Who is Duncan?
Born and brought up in Accra, Ghana, the 24-year old is a product of the youth academy at Inter Milan where he broke into the first team in 2012. He made just three appearances in two years at the club, one of which he spent out on a loan, before moving to Sampdoria in 2014. Just a year and 26 appearances later, he managed to earn a place at Sassuolo, where he has now established himself as the first choice midfielder for the Serie A outfit.
At just 24, Duncan already has 116 Serie A appearances and nine international appearances and has established himself at the highest level already. Known for his strength and ability to pick team mates over long distances, Duncan is a central midfielder by trait, who loves to hang back and cover for the backline.
He is adept at receiving the ball deep in his half and turning it into an attack but is more comfortable shielding his area away from danger. Strong in the air and with hold up play, he is perfect for the English game and decent addition for Spurs.
Chance under Pochettino
Spurs will use the likes of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama as the first choice midfielders this season while Eric Dier and Harry Winks are the only other options for this role at the club. Duncan can not only help them improve the depth in the squad but his experience at the highest level will allow Pochettino to use him regularly in domestic competitions.
At 24, he is only going to get better and will only make Spurs a stronger side but they are in search of a creative midfielder who can replace Dembele in the long term and for that, Duncan is not an option. But do you think they should get him to London anyway?
