Manchester United are one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market this summer. After Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof, they have now signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea recently but Mourinho is not done with his business yet this summer.
The Red Devils are a bit weak in midfield at the moment and will need one more addition to make sure that they are well packed for the next season. And according to a few sources, they are now one of the favourites to sign Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski.
Manchester United 5/2 favourites to sign Zielinski
A long term transfer target for arch rivals Liverpool, the 23-year old has been a reliable player for the Italian side Napoli but he has been extensively linked with an exit this summer.
Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the youngster and is ready to lure him to Old Trafford for the next season.
History and attributes:
Having risen to the fore with some stellar performances for the academy at Udinese in Italy, the 23-year old only moved to Napoli last summer but has been on the radar of a number of English clubs, right from his time at the Dacia Arena. He made an appearance in almost every game in the Serie A for Napoli last season, picking up five goals and seven assists from a deeper role.
A central midfielder by trait, the 23-time capped Polish international is an established midfielder who has immense confidence in his abilities. And excellent dribbler with a keen eye for a pass, Zielinski is a liability in front of goal in the final third with his weak finishing but he is more than capable of sitting back in a midfield role and creating chances for his side.
He is not adept at playing as the first line of defence but at just 23, he is still learning that part of the game. Last season for Napoli, he was solid and dependable and was also creative in the final third, and he showed glimpses of why he can turn into a complete player, one of the best in Europe.
What will he add to the squad at OT?
At his age, Zielinski is more experienced than many of the stars playing for Manchester United at the moment. He is a midfielder who is experienced at the highest level and though they are expected to have a midfield of Nemanja Matic in the middle with Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba on their sides, they will surely be able to integrate the 23-year old in their lineup.
The Red Devils will want to play a strong lineup for every game in all four competitions next season but they only have the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick as backups for the first choice midfielders and neither is expected to play a huge role in the first team next season. Zielinski is an upgrade on both those names and can also take the Serbian midfielder’s place in the first team in years to come. Liverpool’s prolonged interest in the player shows the quality he has but do you think he is the right man for Manchester United.
