Manchester United have started the season in a ruthless manner, the testament of which can be derived from their 4-0 win against West Ham United at the Old Trafford in the opening fixture followed by a 0-4 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium last weekend. The Red Devils have started to look threatening once again and apparently, they look firm to challenge for major silverware once again.
Jose Mourinho is a manager who is perennially renowned for his winning mentality and is raring to erect his legacy in the red half of Manchester. Mourinho has already lured three world class names to his arsenal this summer in Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof. His intentions are quite clear and with the deadline day approaching, the Portuguese might want to add some more quality in order to compete properly in the Premier League, Champions League and other domestic competitions.
One of the reports has stated that the twenty-time English top division champions have put Barcelona’s Andre Gomes on their wish-list. Gomes made a move to Camp Nou from Valencia last summer but he hasn’t had a decent first season with the club, as he started in just 17 La Liga games and could manoeuvre merely three goals and an assist. The Portuguese international wants to move on and a move to Manchester United should be an appealing one for the midfielder.
Gomes is a player who thrives on technical and tactical awareness and has the quality to carve pinpoint passes. From the middle of the park, he knits his teammates brilliantly, has a compelling physique to withstand animosity and has the knack to bang goals as well. The former Benfica and Valencia man also has the quality of creating adequate chances, shoots well and although he lacks raw pace and has to better his decision-making abilities, he is a decent package for any top quality side.
His growth hasn’t really been a riveting one after switching himself to the ranks of the Cules and he has struggled time and again to make a galvanizing impact. The fact that the 24-year-old is looking for an exit is a clear indication of the perception that he wants to create a buzz in the continent and better his credentials. Under Mourinho, he should be getting his chances to thrive and if a deal eventually forks out, Manchester United will indeed have a very strong squad to ply their trade with this season.
