Manchester United have now broken the transfer record in two consecutive transfer windows since Jose Mourinho took over the club last summer. The Red Devils have also added Victor Lindelof to their defence and Nemanja Matic to their midfield this summer apart from Romelu Lukaku, but Mourinho does not seem too impressed with the options at his disposal and is now looking for further additions to his backline.
Controversial Star Close to OT Switch
According to Paris United, a reliable source close to the club, Manchester United have now agreed to sign PSG defender Serge Aurier on a five-year deal this summer. They claim that he will be paid wages close to €5m on his new deal and that he will complete his move by the end of the week.
The 24-year old Ivory Coast international, who started his career with Lens, joined the French giants on a permanent deal in 2015 but has ever since been known more for his off field antics and controversies, than his abilities on the field.
He is currently denied a Visa to the UK, thanks to his numerous controversies in his short stint in Spain. He is 24 but has already been suspended for almost a complete year of football, but it is understood that Jose Mourinho is convinced that he is the right man, and is ready to meet his valuation of around £25m.
Attributes and style of play
The Ivory Coast international is a beast of a defender, who can play across any of the positions in the backline. He is a right-back by trait and will fall down the pecking order at PSG, who have added Dani Alves from Juventus to their backline.
Known for his strength and aggressive approach, Aurier is a decent dribbler and passer of the ball but his biggest strength is his ability to hold on to the ball and fend off opponents in dangerous areas. He loves to keep it simple and is hardly known for making mistakes in front of goal, while his ability to create chances with crosses and path-breaking passes, only makes him more dangerous.
He puts in crunching tackles and loves to throw himself around, all attributes that will attract Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Chances at Manchester United
Aurier is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur but Manchester United have all but secured his services this summer. Mourinho has used Antonio Valencia as the first choice last season while Matteo Darmian remains the only backup for him in this role.
Aurier, may not walk into the first team yet, but at just 24, he has enough time to adjust to the league and them turn into a star at Old Trafford. This deal might also mean the end of the road for the Italian defender, Darmian, who is wanted in Serie A this summer.
But before that, United have to make sure that he resolves his Visa problems as he will not be eligible for a medical unless he is no longer a Visa reject to the UK. His controversies aside, he is a superstar, tailor made for the English game, but do you think United need a player like him in their squad?
