The Champions of England, Chelsea have made a couple of smart moves in the transfer market this summer as they have managed to cover for letting go of their top goal scorer in Diego Costa this summer. The Blues boss will be relatively happy with the options he has in the attack at the moment but might be interested in adding another exciting star to their squad for the challenges next season.
There are a number of attackers linked with a move to the club recently but the latest player on the radar of the English champions is French sensation Kylian Mbappe.
Transfer situation
The French teenager has established himself as the best youngster in Europe at the moment after his stellar campaign with AS Monaco, helping them to the league title. However, he has recently revealed he is ready to quit the club this summer and the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in his signature.
However, Chelsea are also in the running for the sensational star, but only if they have to let go of their prized possession in Eden Hazard. The Belgian star is among the best playmakers in Europe at the moment and is wanted by Real Madrid and Barcelona, who want him to replace Neymar Jr. So Roman Abramovich has decided that he will spend on Mbappe if Hazard decides to quit the club this summer.
Mbappe and his potential
At just 18 years of age, Mbappe has shown that he is ready for the highest level already as he put in some stellar performances, not just in the domestic league in France, but also in the Champions League last season, where Monaco ended their run in the semi-finals. Mbappe scored 26 goals and picked up 14 assists in all competitions last season, standing as one of the most productive players in France.
He has shown maturity way beyond his age and has also made four international appearances for France already. He will only get better with time and will also improve other aspects of his game with age and is a ultra-long term option for any club he signs for.
The right man for Chelsea?
Antonio Conte cannot afford to lose his talisman in Eden Hazard anytime soon but the pull of the Spanish clubs might be enough for the Belgian to shift bases this summer. So Chelsea want to stay ahead of the game and are already plotting a move for Mbappe, just in case they have to lose Hazard late in this transfer window.
Mbappe is expected to fetch around £170m, which will incidentally not be a record if Neymar’s move to PSG goes through but the fact that Chelsea have very little options in the transfer market to replace Hazard with, will mean that they will be ready to splash the cash on the Frenchman. They are also expected to get a huge inflow from the sale of the Belgian, which will also aid their pursuit of Mbappe. But do you think the 18-year old has what it takes to replace a player like Hazard in a competition like the Premier League?
