The story
In a recent story coming from tabloids, it has been stated now that Merseyside outfit Everton are keen on signing former Manchester City man Eden Dzeko as a replacement for the recently departed Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian international left the Toffees to join Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side and was welcomed with open arms at Old Trafford.
However, Ronald Koeman will not take things lightly as the Dutch manager plans to add the 31-year old AS Roma forward to his present squad at the Merseyside.
The former Southampton boss has plans of his own and wants to improve things at Goodison Park, so that he can make them a top four side by very least.
It seems that for this purpose, he feels that the Bosnia and Herzegovina international will be a perfect fit for his team and his ability in front of goal can be a huge asset to them.
With the singing of Wayne Rooney, another addition can bring more quality to the team and Everton can make a major impact in the league next term.
Dzeko was been in great form in Serie A and if he can replicate that level of performance in the top flight of English football, we all might be rather surprised. Besides, he already has prior experience of playing in England.
Player facts and stats
With 29 goals in 37 games for Roma last term, the race to become the champions of Italy was quite intense in the previous term. He is a good leader up front, when given the responsibility or charge to do so and can produce some special performances and turn games, with good goals.
He has previously represented VfL Wolfsburg and City, prior to joining the Romans on loan back in 2015 and making his move to the Stadio Olimpico a permanent one. Though, he won quite a few titles at the Etihad, in the four years that he spent there, he was never really a big star due to the presence of other bigger names.
However, things have now changed and he has now made a name for himself in Italy, due to which, various clubs across Europe want his services.
Deal or no deal?
In my opinion, the deal should not happen at all. If Koeman wants to sign a striker, he should go for Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, who will be a much better choice for the club. The Frenchman and Dzeko have similar attributes and playing style, though Giroud has been playing in England in the last few years and brings more to the game other than his goals alone.
Wenger will not stop him from leaving, if he is not happy at the Emirates. However, it is just the Toffees’ move to make now.
