Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Sporting Lisbon central midfielder Adrien Silva this summer. Mauricio Pochettino is keen on adding depth and strength to his squad, as he is much aware of the long drawn fixtures he has to compete in to fight for silverware both domestically and on the European front.
The Adrien Silva was a key figure for Sporting this past season and his performance have drawn the attention of many including that of the Spurs gaffer who is more than impressed with the player and is keen to bring him to the club.
Silva is presently tied to his current employer till 2020 and with 3 years remaining on his contract, the Portuguese club is sure to play hardball in letting go of their player.
The French-born player is reportedly subject to a £26.5m bid from the Spurs and it is assumed to be enough to lure away the midfielder.
Player stats
The 28-year old has impressed many with his composure and calmness in the heart of the midfield and was a key figure in the club’s run up to 3rd position in the Liga NOS standings this past season.
The Portuguese International had featured 36 times for Sporting Lisbon in all competitions and managed to provide them with 6 goals and 4 assists in total. Certainly an impressive feat for a central midfielder, one must admit.
The player has maintained a pass percentage of 85.3 and made a total of 25 key passes in all competitions for his club which goes to prove the earlier stated point regarding the player’s calmness and composure to pick out players in the final third and create chances.
He is also versatile as he can play in holding, attacking as well as in central position in the midfield which goes to show the player’s dynamism and fluidity. Certainly, key attributes in a player any manager would love to have.
The player is also very well adept when it comes to executing his defensive duties and had a tackle success rate of 71.9%, going on to make a total of 52 interceptions for his club. (Stats via FotMob )
What’ll he offer the club?
Adrien Silva would provide Spurs with the added depth and strength they need to the squad without compromising on quality. The player could also very well complement Dele Alli and Eriksen in the midfield with his composure and vision.
Pochettino could easily rotate his midfield without risking wearing out his players and losing them in crucial times just like he had faced many times in recent seasons.
Worth the money?
Evaluating the array of skills and talent the Portuguese International would bring to Spurs the price value of £26.5m does seem to be quite justifiable and with Spurs looking to build for the future and aiming high, investments such as these are very much intrinsic for the club.
