Mathieu Debuchy of Arsenal is apparently on the radar of many Premier League clubs with Leicester City being among the list of potential suitors reported vying for the right-back. The Frenchman had fallen out of favour in the club’s pecking order with Bellerin and Gibbs being preferred over him.
Debuchy is keen to search for more game time and is apparently ready to switch shirts in case of a right offer in his way. Having 2 years left on his contract, Arsenal also should try to cash in on the player who is currently 31.
The Foxes are currently looking to revamp their squad to fight for the lost glory that they had gained in 2016 and club officials are ready to rope in new players. Following the tumultuous season that Foxes had endured this recently, it comes as no surprise that the club is looking for a major turnaround next season with good quality signings in the summer.
Let’s take a look at the stats of Debuchy.
Player stats
The French international has made a minimal contribution this past season having only appeared once for the Gunners and that too for only 16 mins.
The last time the Arsenal full-back did have an impressive run was during the season 13/14 where he made 29 appearances for the North London Club. Having made a total of 59 appearances for Arsenal, the player has scored 2 goals and 3 assists in total.
The player also boasts an impressive tackle success rate of 73% and a total of 112 interceptions in his total time at the club does show that the player has the composure and vision to thwart early attacks and threats into the box.
Falling behind on speed and agility due to his age, the Frenchman more than makes up for it with his defensive capabilities at the back.
The player is also quite good at winning aerial duels having a win percentage of 61.6. (Stats via Premier League.com)
What’ll he bring to the club?
The player still does have the quality and skill as a defender which one could easily say look towards the points stated above but has been much underutilised and deployed at the Emirates.
With Leicester, Debuchy would get the proper game time and consistency on the pitch which might help in bringing out the best in him. Also, Leicester have had many problems down the right flank with their present right back unable to fully solve the problem.
Having a player like Debuchy would provide an extra bit of composure and strength at the back that Leicester could surely use, seeing the number of goals they conceded this past season.
Safe to say this is a transfer that many in the King Power Stadium would be delighted with if it happens.
