16 goals and 6 assists: Kane’s position could be under threat if Tottenham Hotspur sign this striker

Transfer Story

Atletico Madrid’s Kevin Gameiro is apparently the subject of interest in North London as Tottenham Hotspur are looking to add depth to their squad with the addition of the Frenchman.

Tottenham have had good success under Pochettino’s regime and finished this past season in second place. They have, however, have fallen short and haven’t picked up any silverware, a fact that Pochettino would be hell-bent on changing in the upcoming season.

The Frenchman still has three years left on his present contract at the Vicente Calderon and is apparently being valued at £26m. But with Atletico’s transfer ban this summer, the situation is a bit complicated as they might be unwilling to let go of their star striker.

Nonetheless, let’s check the stats and evaluate the effect the player might have at Tottenham if the transfer does manage to materialise.

Player stats

  • The 30-year old has made 21 first team starts in his 31 appearances for the club in La Liga this season.
  • The player has scored 16 goals and provided 6 assists in all competitions for Atletico Madrid showcasing his capability and creativity in front of goal.
  • The Frenchman’s overall pass success rate of 74.6% and a total of 28 key passes exemplifies the fact that he not only is he good at holding play upfront and creating chances but is also unselfish in front of goal. A true team player, no doubt! (Stats via Whoscored)

A key player indeed, the only drawback is the fact that he is 30 years old and might have only 2-3 years of prime football left in him, as in many cases we have seen strikers on their wane post 30, but one never knows what is on the cards with ample exemptions also in the footballing history.

What’ll he offer the Club?

Although 30, the player has a lot to provide in terms of skill, experience and knowledge to the entire squad. Son, although developing gradually under the able guidance of Pochettino, still has a bit of way to go before properly being able to assist or replace Kane up front which makes the Frenchman a key target for the club.

Having the required technical awareness and experience of playing in top tier leagues of Europe, the player would be an ideal addition to the club. He’s a far cry from the players like Soldado and Janssen as he has done it at various clubs and he could turn out be more than just a plan B if Kane doesn’t fire.

But let’s not forget the transfer ban on Atletico Madrid which might make the acquisition of the forward umpteen times tougher than expected.

You have touched some fastidious things here. Any way keep up wrinting here.
