Arsenal’s pursuit of French sensation Kylian Mbappe might have been thwarted after the over excessive and far fetched price asked by AS Monaco, but that doesn’t seem to have deterred the 67-year-old Frenchman in vying for another compatriot from the Ligue 1 this summer.
Recent reports suggest that Arsene Wenger is currently in the pursuit for Olympique Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette who had a sensational run of games with the Ligue 1 club last season.
The Frenchman is currently tied to Parc Olympique Lyonnais till 2019 and with 2 years left on his present contract, his employers have put a price tag of €65m for any potential suitors vying for the 26-year-old Frenchman’s services.
Certainly, a hefty fee for any club to cough up but certainly minute compared to the humongous fee that Monaco solicited from the Gunners for Mbappe.
Nonetheless, let’s evaluate the stats.
Player Stats
The Frenchman had been a key figure at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais and has established himself as a fan favourite with his impeccable touch of the ball and finishing abilities upfront.
The 26-year-old talisman had featured 45 times with Lyon last season going on to score an emphatic 37 number of goals and 4 assists for the French Club.
The Frenchman’s creativity and vision in the attacking third are also quite formidable as could be well understood from his total of 62 key passes for the French club going on to maintain a healthy pass success rate of 77.2%.
Certainly, an out and out striker, the player’s ability to shoot from distance and exquisite finishing skills inside the box had dazzled fans and rivals alike.
Certainly a game-changer of a player, Arsene would love to have the prospect in Arsenal’s “arsenal”! (Stats via WhoScored)
What’ll he offer the Club?
Arsenal had been more than reliant on the services of Alexis Sanches throughout last season as his other forwards namely Giroud, Welbeck and Walcott mostly squandered chances and misfired.
Missing out on the top 4, Arsene would certainly want to make amendments in the upcoming season and the signing of the French talisman might just be the key for Arsenal to once again be a formidable spearhead attacking force that it once was.
With Lacazette up front accompanied by Sanchez and possibly Walcott on either flank, Arsenal would be deadly in obliterating defensive forces with their lethal pace and dribbling skills.
Worth the Money?
Considering the above-posted resume and stats that the Frenchman boasts, it would be tough to argue against that sumptuous price tag.
To replace a player who had been the prima donna for a club, it is only quite natural for that club to ask for a healthy reimbursement and the price tag of €65m is much justified.
But with many other European bigwigs on the prowl for the French superstar, Arsene should get his business done as early as possible.
