Transfer story
Chelsea will need to strengthen their squad to have enough options for each position with the Blues needing to play two games a week next season courtesy of their qualification for the Champions League. Having enough cover on the flanks is an aspect where work is needed as many names are being linked in recent days with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer. The latest being Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic who has long been linked with a transfer to the Premier League.
Perisic has been a crucial player for Inter this season but with new owners ready to spend more than £100 million in the summer, the Italian club must sell some of their players to reduce their wage bill. This has to be done because of FIFA’s financial fair play rules as the Nerazzurri have decided to offload the Croatian winger. He is valued at around £47 million by Inter and the likes of Manchester United and Juventus are also interested in the winger.
Player stats
This has been a productive year for the Croatian as after a successful Euros with his national side including a match-winning performances against the Czech Republic and Spain, Perisic arrived in great form for the concluded season. The 28-year-old scored 10 goals in Serie A this season and also produced six assists in the league to become one of the most important players for his side. His all-round abilities in front of the goal and his work rate can make him a commendable option for the Blues next season.
What he’ll offer to the club?
The 28-year-old is a highly adaptive player and can play on the left wing and also as a forward. On the counters, Perisic has been effective all his career with the most important weapon in his artillery being his deceptive pace. He is not your traditional winger but can play well as a striker too who can run behind the defence and be an aerial threat. His utility makes him a must buy for any top Premier League club and his work rate and physical style of play looks to be most suitable for Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.
Worth the money?
Though the quoted £47 million price might look a bit over the top for a 28-year-old player, Perisic has looked good this season with the winger appearing to be a late bloomer in his career. He is a hard-working guy who has always given his 100% for every club that he has played for. He can play with both feet and has a powerful shot in his armour. Most importantly, it his utility which makes it stand out from the others as Antonio Conte must take every measure to secure his services.
