With their teams relegated this season here’s a pick of the 3 individuals whose transfer back to Premier League seems to be almost certain.
Here are the three likely names on the transfer list:
#1 Victor Valdes
The Spanish international has been linked with a sensational reunion with his former manager Pep Guardiola. With Middlesbrough going down, Valdes might be tempted to move to the Blues of Manchester in lure of playing in the Premier League and Champions League.
The Boro goalkeeper had won 14 major honours with Guardiola during their time in Barcelona.
Current Man City goalkeepers Bravo and Caballero have both had a tough season and Pep who is looking for an overhaul this summer, and might actually go for Valdes.
The ex- Barcelona goalie himself also had a somewhat mixed season this year riddled with injuries. He has maintained a total of 8 clean sheets this past season which goes to show that the 35-year old Spaniard still has it in him.
Reports suggest that contact has been made between both clubs regarding the discussion of a possible move.
#2 Ben Gibson
The young English International have been few of the standout players in the otherwise lacklustre squad of Middlesbrough. The Englishman has started in all the 37 league matches that Middlesbrough have played this season scoring 1 goal and 1 assist.
His defensive style and technique have been appreciated by many.
His leadership qualities have seen him carry the captain armband quite a few times this season (19 times). The 24-year old can play as a centre-back as well as a left-back which goes to show his versatility. Also, having a tackle and clearance average of 0.8 and 6.1 per game shows the composure and ability in his game.
Tottenham are said to be interested in securing his services. The North Londoners have a young group of players but their defence is pretty settled. However, with more fixtures again next season, Gibson could provide solid backup to the likes of Vertonghen and Alderweireld.
#3 Harry Maguire
The 24-year old English International has shown his mettle at the back with Hull City this season.
The 6’2 Englishman was outstanding in the aerial duels and set pieces for the Tigers this season. With an average interception rate of 2.2 and clearance rate of 4.9 per game, one can easily understand the growing interest in the lad. He also has 2 goals and 2 assists in his 29 league appearances. With such stats, one could easily argue that Maguire would be a valuable addition to any team in the Premier League.
Recent transfer rumours have linked the Englishman with a move to King Power Stadium. Craig Shakespeare reportedly wants to instil some fresh blood in the backline as Wes Morgan and Robert Huth are both in their 30s.
