With a horrible injury ending Zlatan’s Premier League season, it is believed that coach Jose Mourinho is up and running to find a suitable replacement. Rumours have it that the Portuguese is apparently interested in signing Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan this summer.
The Croatian striker has been an eminent figure for the Nerazzurri since his arrival from Wolfsburg in 2015. His creativity and flamboyance with the ball on the field have earned him many accolades from fans and pundits alike.
Presently he committed to Inter till 2020 via a contract that he signed with them in 2015 and has a market value of around €25m. Despite his market value, the Nerazzurri are reportedly asking potential suitors to cough up a value estimated to be around €40m to sign the player.
Some are suggesting the price tag maybe even higher than that.
Player Stats
The player has made 34 appearances with the Serie A club as his versatility and vision have seen him play in various positions upfront and midfield.
The Inter man has scored 15 goals and provided 7 assists in all competitions for the club this season which means the player has it in himself to provide Man United with the goals and creativity up front, something they haven’t had consistently this season.
The Croatian also has made a total of 56 key passes and 32 interceptions in the league. (Source WhoScored)
What’ll he bring to the Club?
Man United had been short of creativity and vision upfront where the team chemistry just hasn’t clicked between the forwards, resulting in misplaced passes, loss of possession and wastage of the eventual chances they have created.
Perisic might prove to be the connecting link that Man United need. With his creativity, vision and quick reaction with the ball, he might supply the Red Devils with the extra edge that they had been lacking the whole season in the absence of Ibrahimović.
At 28 years of age, he still has some good years of football left in him and with his expertise, he could also help Rashford in his development.
Although United have a number of forwards within their squad at the moment, they could really use an experienced individual.
Worth the Money?
At €40m he would be worth the money for United. Seeing they lack individual forward with the required physical dominance to hold the ball and make creative passes, Perisic would be the right addition to the squad. Playing alongside Rashford, it would be a treat for the Red Devils’ fans as both can tear and torment the opposition defenders.
Only time will now tell whether the “Special One” manages to bring in this special talent to Old Trafford.
