Manchester United availed themselves of the luxury of a free-scoring striker in Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the Swedish striker managed 28 goals across all competitions.
Manchester United ideally need someone who can replace Zlatan in the long haul and someone who can guarantee a minimum of 20-goals a season. If there is someone who can fill in the shoes of Zlatan and help remedy their offensive woes for certain then that someone is Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku is the ideal replacement for Zlatan. Having scored 24 goals this season and just missed out on the Premier League golden boot suggests that the Belgium fits the bill perfectly for the Manchester side. Lukaku is one of those strikers who is sure to get you a lot of goals on a consistent basis and his goal scoring ability is quite reliable. The stats speak for themselves as the 24-year-old has managed 15,10,18 and 24 goals in the last four campaigns.
Lukaku has got that ability in the box to score both with head and foot and has always been amongst the goals. With his physique, he has the ability to out-muscle and bully virtually any defender in the Premier League and at just 24, he has a lot to offer to United who seem to have been left with a void to fill in that role of a complete striker.
He will not only be solving United’s problems temporarily but may even offer a long term solution for the Reds.
Although his arrival may limit Rashford’s chances to feature in the first team regularly, he is exactly what Mourinho likes. The Portuguese’s preference for players who are finished-products than work-in-progress has been quite apparent over the years.
Rashford is still quite raw and isn’t naturally an out and out striker and is still learning his trade while Lukaku is in his peak and probably won’t suffer in terms of consistency. Also with United only managing 54 goals this season, there is no room for compromise and they would probably be better with Lukaku leading the attack for them next season.
Lukaku is the quintessential striker of the Premier League and any team that gets hold of him is bound to have no problems in getting a consistent number of goals.
Lukaku is set to be the hot property in the transfer market in this particular window and a host of clubs are said to be interested in acquiring the services of the Belgian. He has also been linked with a return to his former club Chelsea with the Blues’ striker Diego Costa set to move to China.
If Manchester United manage to beat the others in signing Lukaku, it may represent one of the most important piece of business for the Red-Devils.
