Transfer Story
The 24-year-old Deportivo La Coruna striker Florin Andone has been the subject of interest from many Serie A and Premier League clubs, with Watford presently vying for the Romanian’s signature.
The La Liga striker was impressive this season at Deportivo and has been a key figure in the club’s battle against relegation. The Romanian is currently under contract with the Spanish side till 2021. But reports suggest that a bid of around £17m might just persuade the club to let go of the player.
Watford are gearing up for a big change with Silva at the helm and the area he will immediately look to set right is likely to be the frontline which seems to be their major concern as only 17 of the season’s total tally of 40 goals have come from the forwards. Lacking quality upfront, the Romanian international, Andone, might provide the solution.
Let’s take a sneak peek into the performance and stats of the 24-year-old.
Florin Andone – Player Stats
- The LaLiga forward has made 32 first team starts in his 37 appearances for the club, amassing an amazing total of 12 goals and 6 assists to his name.
- The Romanian also has an average pass success rate of 67% and has made a total of 16 key passes in the league.
- The 24-year-old Deportivo man’s dribbling skill and quality of taking set pieces have made him a threat to opponents. With a lethal right foot, he has stung many deadly shots on target.
- The player’s total interception of 5 in the entire LaLiga season does point out to the fact that defensively the Romanian is not that aware and has given up possession in the opponent’s half far too often this season, exposing the team to counter attacks. (Stats via WhoScored)
What’ll he bring to the Club?
The LaLiga forward is more than capable of providing Watford with the edge that they have been lacking throughout the season.
Hornets’ would not want to risk another relegation battle next season and the inclusion of players like Andone can only help the club in materialising that wish.
With poor finishing and creativity up front this season, the addition of the LaLiga striker would seem only logical as he might be able to infuse some pace and energy in the forward line thus creating better chances.
Worth the Money?
At £17m, the price seems justifiable for the player as Deportivo would have to sacrifice their starlet but the more important fact is whether the player would want to join the Hornets or not.
As it is, he battered through a relegation battle with Deportivo this season in LaLiga which might make him unwilling to join another potential relegation survival battle, this time in the Premier League.
But there is a sense of optimism after the appointment of Marco Silva and he will surely be a factor in luring players to establish Watford as a regular mid table club.
