Transfer Story
Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing the Benfica star goalie Ederson Moraes in the summer transfer window. With David De Gea’s departure looking more and more imminent, United are supposedly looking for a probable replacement.
The Spaniard has set high standards for anyone taking his place at United and it would be tough for anyone to live up to the expectations. Having a market value of almost €12m, the young Brazilian is well worth much higher than that. Having signed a new contract of 5 years with Benfica in 2015, Ederson has a release clause of €45m and it would be a tough bargain for Man United.
Let us have a look at the stats of the young Brazilian.
Ederson Moraes – Player Stats
Ederson has helped his club to a second consecutive league title this season, playing a significant part in the team’s success.
- The 23-year-old has made 27 appearances in the league for the club keeping an astounding league second-best 17 clean sheets for the club.
- The Benfica man has also conceded 12 goals in the League which puts to rest all the doubts of the shot stopping techniques of the young Brazilian.
- Towering at 6’2 the youngster has a pass success of 65% and an average of 28 passes per game. Ederson is also known to show his physical presence in the box with aggressive jumps and tackles towards oncoming threats into the box. (whoscored)
What’ll he bring to the club?
The Benfica goalie’s quick reflex and vision are some of the key factors for his success at Benfica. His shot-stopping techniques and aggressive defending technique, although sometimes putting him in trouble, have mostly being applauded by fans and experts alike. And if he comes to the Premier League, he would bring the right physical dominance and presence that a United keeper needs to exude at the back. Also being 23-year old, he could be a long-term prospect for United.
Worth the Money?
Although he has performed quite well in the Liga NOS, Premier League is a different league altogether and most people find it tougher to adjust in here. The mighty De Gea had faced problems initially when he joined United and now he has turned out to be one of world’s best, and United fans can only hope that Ederson quickly adjusts and adapts to United’s playing style. But for €45m it is would be too high a risk for the Red Devils. At best he could be valued at €25m and nothing higher than that.
But who knows what trick the “Special One” pulls out of his hat to get this deal done. All eyes on Mou for this one, certainly.
