United held on to the two goal lead and dominated the entire game. They remain four points behind their Manchester rivals with the win and have an outside chance of making it to the top four, given their tough fixture list ahead. Below are Manchester United’s player ratings.
David de Gea
David de Gea didn’t really have much to do between the sticks except collect aerial balls in awkward situations which he did well.
Bailly did well at the back, making a few important tackles in the box. He also dealt with the threat of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa along with Ander Herrera.
Rojo was a bit rash and could have been sent off for his grapple and slap on Costa. He didn’t afford Costa the luxury of space.
Darmian did well at the back to keep Pedro at bay and impeded Chelsea’s progress on a number of occasions but wasn’t really tested at the back.
Valencia had a good game as he made several decent runs down the right for Manchester United, giving Azpilicueta a tough time at the back.
Herrera had an excellent game, not only keeping Hazard really quiet by not giving him an inch of space but also he took a lot of Chelsea midfielders out of the equation with his through balls. He also got the important second goal for Manchester United.
Fellaini showed good strength in the middle of the pitch, helping out a lot defensively and also helping in the offence by holding the ball well.
Pogba made a few really good passes and really helped Manchester United on the counter.
Young had a really good game, drawing the Chelsea defence and enable his teammates to exploit the space.
Rashford got the important opening goal for Manchester United and made some really decent runs, winning a lot of physical battles and creating quite a lot of chances.
Lingard had some really good first touches which Chelsea found very difficult to deal with.
Carrick’s introduction added another defensive body which made it really difficult for Chelsea to turn the game around.
Zlatan played too little to warrant a rating.
Fosu-Mensah played too little to warrant a rating.
