5 left-backs linked with Liverpool: Who has the best chance of joining Jurgen Klopp’s side?

Liverpool’s left-back conundrum has been troubling them since long even though James Milner stepped up for the entirety of the season. Alberto Moreno failed to impress the boss and had to be satisfied with a place on the bench.

Understandably, Liverpool are looking to spend a chunk of their summer budget to address this issue as the Reds must solve the problem if they are to go on and a have crack at the title next season.

A number of targets are being linked with the club since weeks, ranging from the full backs in France to the ones in Scotland. Some targets aren’t realistic but some don’t make sense for the club at the moment.

Though there are some brilliant names that are being linked with the club, only one will join the first team squad at Anfield. Let’s delve in and take a look at all the left backs that are being speculated with a move to the Reds and rate their chance of coming to play with Jürgen Klopp’s men:

#1 Benjamin Mendy

The AS Monaco full-back has been a crucial member of the Gallic outfit’s rise in Europe this season and naturally, Mendy has been linked to almost all the top clubs in Europe. Liverpool and Manchester City are said to be the frontrunners for his signature but his valuation at £42 million might provide the Reds with a huge problem. His wages too might be excessive for Liverpool to offer as this move just has a slight chance to happen.

Chance – 3/10

#2 Ryan Sessegnon

The 16-year-old has caught the attention of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur with the teenager being likened to Gareth Bale. He has a huge future ahead of him but latest reports have claimed that Liverpool have given up on Sessegnon as they think that the Fulham player has agreed to join Pochettino’s Spurs.

Chance – 4/10

#3 Andrew Robertson

The Hull City full-back is a gettable target who is linked with the club as the Tigers have been relegated and will definitely lose some of their best players in the summer. Robertson is available for £8 million and fits the bill perfectly for Jürgen Klopp’s idea of a fullback.

He has the experience of playing in the league and is a direct upgrade on Alberto Moreno. This move is on the cards as the Reds might see him as a value for money addition.

Chance – 7/10

#4 Gael Clichy

The former Manchester City man is a free agent at the moment as Liverpool can take full advantage of his situation. Signing James Milner on a free proved to be a shrewd move as the same can be repeated with Clichy.

He has played at the highest level and can prove to be a senior figure for Liverpool next season. Jürgen Klopp does not seem to be too keen on him at this moment but the 31-year old will definitely not miss out on the chance to stay in England if offered a decent deal.

Rating – 6/10

#5 Kieran Tierney

Liverpool were reportedly interested in Celtic’s 19-year old left-back, Tierney according to reports a month ago. He has been mightily impressive in the Hoops’ unbeaten run in the recently concluded season and the Reds believe that the youngster can develop even further under Jürgen Klopp.

But Celtic are under no pressure to sell him as this move won’t happen unless Liverpool decide to spend big for an untested full-back which makes this rumour a no-go.

Rating – 2/10
