Back to back losses against struggling opposition in the top tier has left Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in a bit of a bother at the fag end of the January transfer window. The Reds allowed Philippe Coutinho to make his dream move to Barcelona earlier this month and have now allowed Daniel Sturridge to move to West Brom on loan.
This may have made the squad at Anfield weaker but the manager is adamant that there will not be a lot done in the transfer market in the short term. But the fans of the club are desperate for some additions and the club’s previous acquisitions in January only stress the importance of spending on a player before the deadline day.
Liverpool have in the past signed some quality players in January but who has been their best? Here are three top class winter-signings that have come good for the Reds under their current owners – Fenway Sports Group:
#3 Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian playmaker, who made headlines for his record-breaking exit, is currently enjoying life in Catalonia but he was relatively unknown before Liverpool snapped him up back in 2013.
Playing for Inter, Coutinho joined Liverpool on the penultimate day of the January transfer window in the 2012-13 season and turned into one of the best players, not just in the club, but in the country.
He only cost the Reds around £8.5m and is easily one of the best deals Liverpool have made recently in the winter transfer window
