Serie A side Napoli are reportedly ready to offer Manchester United an escape route for struggling striker Rasmus Hojlund, but only if the Premier League giants are willing to take a financial hit.
The Red Devils signed the Denmark international for £72 million from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 but he has failed to make an impact at Old Trafford. He has netted 23 goals in 72 appearances for the Mancunian side thus far, including just seven in 33 outings across all competitions this season.
Having gone 16 games without a goal, Rasmus Hojlund is feeling the heat at Old Trafford. New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim remains far from convinced by Hojlund. However, the centre-forward’s stock in Italy remains high.
Now, according to talkSPORT chief correspondent Alex Crook’s Transfer Notebook, Napoli are ready to sign Hojlund but would only fork a fraction of the £72million Man United paid for his services in 2023.
The Dane perhaps will be given until the end of the season to show improvement in his performance levels. With Man United struggling on the pitch and off it (PSR conundrum), INEOS will be forced to make a lot of changes to Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Rasmus Hojlund could have a way out of Man United—Should INEOS cash in?
Patience with Rasmus Hojlund seems to be running thin at Man United. The striker has netted only two Premier League goals since the season began, with serious doubts about his ability to adapt and his Old Trafford future have emerged. Faith in the young Dane is dwindling rapidly following his lack of goals, with Amorim understood to be frustrated.
A clinical goalscorer is an absolute must for the Red Devils in the summer. Neither Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee have supplied goals consistently this season—one of the prime reasons why the 20-time English champions continue to struggle to put teams away despite getting chances in and around the box.
As Hojlund’s stock still remains high following his past exploits with Atalanta, Napoli are ready to provide him with a chance to revive his career. However, the Naples-based outfit will not splash a premium for the Denmark international’s services, leaving INEOS with a tough decision – offload the misfiring striker for a loss or stick with him and hope for a turnaround in form.
Interestingly, Man United have been interested in signing Victor Osimhen, who is currently blasting goals for Galatasaray on loan from Napoli. While a potential swap deal involving Osimhen and Hojlund appears complicated to pull off, the United chiefs must be wary of what they could achieve with a clinical striker like the Nigerian international.
If Napoli are ready to sell Osimhen to Man United for a decent fee in the summer, they should not hesitate to let Rasmus Hojlund leave as Amorim needs an established goalscorer to lead his attack next season.
