Liverpool will aim to make it back-to-back Premier League wins on Saturday when they take on Ipswich Town at Anfield.
The Reds picked up a late victory at Brentford last week thanks to a stoppage-time brace from substitute Darwin Nunez. This ended their two-game winless run in the Premier League and got their title charge back on track. Arne Slot’s men followed it up by beating Lille 2-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday, thereby, qualifying straight to the competition’s quarter-finals.
The Merseysiders will strive to stretch their lead at the summit to nine points by beating Ipswich, who occupy the final relegation spot on the table.
Liverpool Team News
Liverpool were dealt a blow against Lille when Curtis Jones picked up a knock and was substituted at half time. Conor Bradley was also taken off in the second half, but Arne Slot confirmed after the game that it was purely precautionary.
Meanwhile, Diogo Jota has suffered a muscle problem and will be out for weeks, joining Joe Gomez on the sidelines.
Predicted Liverpool lineup vs Ipswich Town (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeeper
Alisson Becker is a sure-fix starter in goal for the Reds. He will be eyeing back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League at the weekend.
Defence
Ibrahima Konate was an unused substitute in midweek, so he will be fresh to start against Ipswich. The Frenchman should line up alongside mercurial skipper Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence. The duo have to be at their best to keep Ipswich’s main may Liam Delap at bay.
Like Konate, Andy Robertson should be fresh to begin the contest here. He will come into the side at the expense of Kostas Tsimikas, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to get the nod to start at right-back.
Midfield
Alexis Mac Allister should form the double pivot with Ryan Gravenberch in the engine room, hoping to set the tempo of the game as quickly as possible. With their passing, reading of the game and dynamism, they can dominate Ipswich’s midfield.
As Curtis Jones looks to miss out, Harvey Elliot may get the nod in the No.10 role ahead of Dominik Szoboszlai after his impactful performance and goal against Lille.
Attack
Mohamed Salah continued his rollicking goalscoring form by opening the scoring in the 2-1 win over Lille in midweek. He is a fixed starter on the right flank. After Slot decided to not use Cody Gakpo against Lille, there is every possibility of him operating from the left wing on Saturday.
Darwin Nunez is expected to be given another chance to lead the Liverpool attack after his tenacious display in the Champions League, which means Luis Diaz will drop to the bench.
