Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani.
Ruben Amorim has a first major win under his belt as the new Red Devils’ boss after beating Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. The Portuguese tactician will be delighted with his side’s performance – especially having made the big call of dropping Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the squad. They secured the result after a late rally but it is clear that Ruben Amorim still has some way to go before the 20-time English champions are once again ready to begin competing for the Premier League title.
Fresh faces will be needed in 2025 and one potential target appears to be available in the January window. According to a report from French outlet L’Equipe, PSG are looking to offload Kolo Randal Muani during the winter window amid interest from Manchester United.
From being a hefty €95 million signing in September 2023, Kolo Muani, 26, has swiftly slipped into absolute wilderness. The Frenchman finds himself excluded from the first team’s matchday squads following his breakdown in relationship with Luis Enrique, and it now appears that both parties are seeking a solution as the winter transfer window approaches.
Kolo Muani to Man United—Right choice for the club?
Man United’s struggles for goals have continued this season, despite the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna in July.
Zirkzee arrived from Serie A amid a lot of fanfare but has yet to really impress at Old Trafford. Rasmus Hojlund is slowly starting to find the back of the net regularly in Europe; however, he has yet to transform that form in the Premier League. Marcus Rashford’s form has dipped incredibly since the start of last season and there have been reports about the club willing to listen to January offers for him.
The Red Devils have already endured problems finding the back of the net, and now face uncertainty regarding the situation involving Rashford’s lack of impact. If things continue in a similar vein, they would need a resolution fast to fortify their attacking contingent and Kolo Muani, in that regard, could be a good fit.
The Frenchman was viewed as Kylian Mbappe’s successor at PSG but the plan hasn’t worked out, with Kolo Muani scoring just 11 goals in 54 appearances since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt. He hit 23 goals and provided 17 assists in his last season with Frankfurt, earning him a big-money move to Parc des Princes.
Nonetheless, the 2022 World Cup finalist—capable of operating anywhere across the front line—remains a talent and could blossom under Amorim’s tutelage at United. Fast, decisive and athletic with quick feet and dribbling ability, Kolo Muani can play in any of the attacking positions in Amorim’s favoured 3-4-2-1 system. He is also good in the air which could make the France international a handy weapon from set-plays for the Premier League giants.
However, having not lived up to the lofty expectations at PSG, Man United must try agreeing on a loan deal for Kolo Muani with an option to buy in the New Year. If he hits the ground running and performs well in the second half of the season, the Mancunian side may then decide to bring him in permanently.
