Arsenal Register Interest In World Cup Winning Midfield Machine

Brighton’s Argentine World Cup-winning midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has reportedly fallen on the radar of Arsenal.

The 23-year-old was in excellent form throughout the showpiece event in Qatar and played a pivotal role in Argentina becoming world champions. He laid a superb assist for Angel di Maria to double La Albiceleste’s lead in the final against France before being substituted in extra time.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Arsenal are interested in signing Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister but could face competition from Atletico Madrid.

Mac Allister had a brilliant start to the 2022/23 Premier League campaign as he netted five goals in 14 games. He took his fine form to the World Cup and has now seen his stock rise massively. Despite committing to a new deal with the Seagulls in October until 2025, Brighton may find it difficult to convince the midfielder to stay at the Amex Stadium.

Alexis Mac Allister to Arsenal—A good option?

Arsenal must add more quality and depth to their midfield ranks so that manager Mikel Arteta can rotate the likes of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.

Partey and Xhaka have formed a strong partnership in the middle of the park, playing a key role in the Gunners’ rise to the top of the table. Beyond them, Mikel Arteta does have Mohamed Elneny and Albert Sambi Lokonga as options but they aren’t quite at the required level to play regularly for a club of Arsenal’s stature.

As a result, signing a central midfielder in the upcoming January transfer window is an absolute must and the north London giants must try pursuing a deal for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

Mac Allister joined Brighton in 2019 and has made 86 appearances for the club, registering 13 goals and six assists. The Argentina international can operate in the double pivot, as a wide midfielder or as an advanced playmaker for his time and, such flexibility coupled with his technical skills, composure and reading of the game, could potentially benefit Arsenal.

The 23-year-old will undoubtedly bring quality, composure and control in the centre of the pitch for the Gunners, whilst adding quality depth to the squad. He can also chip in with goals from midfield, as proved by his 13 strikes for Brighton.

Mac Allister has been one of Brighton’s consistent performers in the last couple of seasons and is well-settled in the Premier League. So, the Argentine could make an immediate impact at the Emirates Stadium during the second half of the campaign if Arsenal can persuade Brighton into selling one of their prized assets.
