9 Changes Expected: 4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup vs Luton Town

Following a poor performance against Crystal Palace in their opening Premier League game, Manchester United now turn their attention towards League Cup football, when they face Luton Town tonight. The Red Devils put on a pitiful display against Palace, which was their first game of the 2020-21 season.

They will now travel to Kenilworth Road to face Championship side Luton Town in the Carabao Cup. The Red Devils were eliminated in the semi-final of the League Cup by Manchester City last season. The last time Luton Town and Manchester United faced each other was way back in 1992 in the English first division.

Predicted Manchester United lineup for the game against Luton Town

Team News

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed ahead of the game that he has most players available, except for long-term absentees like Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones, while Sergio Romero has not returned to training. Solskjaer said that the players who have not trained much and returned to the club over the last week or so could get a game.

Goalkeeper

David de Gea played between the sticks against Crystal Palace, with Dean Henderson on the bench. Henderson should start for the Red Devils, which will be his debut for Manchester United.

Defence

Victor Lindelof will likely drop to the bench, following his terrible performance against Crystal Palace. Eric Bailly should replace him in the Manchester United lineup to play alongside Harry Maguire. It’s unlikely that Chris Smalling or Marcos Rojo – both of whom could leave the club, will be involved in this game. Young centre-back Teden Mengi could be an option for Solskjaer in central defence.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who arrived late to pre-season training, could start at right-back, while Brandon Williams could start on the opposite side in the Manchester United lineup.

Diogo Dalot is an option for Solskjaer at right-back as well.

Midfield

Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay played in central midfield against Crystal Palace, but both those players could be left out of Tuesday night’s game.

Nemanja Matic and Fred could start in the middle of the park, with new signing Donny van de Beek playing in the No. 10 role in place of Bruno Fernandes.

Attack

Odion Ighalo, a second-half substitute in the loss to Palace, could get a start ahead of Anthony Martial, while Mason Greenwood could also be recalled to the Manchester United lineup, on the right flank.

Daniel James had a poor game against Palace and he could be dropped. Marcus Rashford could retain his place on the left.

Youngsters Anthony Elanga and Hannibal Mejbri, who have impressed for the youth side, could make the bench.
