Manchester United eye swoop for Jarrad Branthwaite – The solidity their defence needs?

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their defence in the summer transfer window and have identified Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite as a top target.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are willing to go all out for the Toffees youngster, who is valued at £50 million.

Manchester United’s defence has been their Achilles heel this season, plagued by injuries and lacklustre performance.

United have conceded 40 goals in the Premier League this term, only the 11th-best defensive record.

Moreover, they are languishing in the 13th position in the table, and manager Ruben Amorim looks to overhaul the squad come the summer.

Branthwaite has grown into one of the most sought-after players following his phenomenal rise at Everton over the last couple of seasons.

The 22-year-old, who is currently part of England’s squad for the European Qualifiers, might leave Goodison Park this season amid interest from European heavyweights.

With a contract until 2027, the Toffees would demand a hefty fee to part ways with their prized asset

However, the catch is that Branthwaite wants to play in the Champions League next season, a luxury the Red Devils can’t afford at this stage.

United should try to finish at least in European places, so they can be in a commanding position to lure players.

What will Branthwaite bring to United’s attack?

Man United’s erratic transfer business has affected the team’s performances for years.

Despite splurging big for the likes of defenders Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt, none have managed to make a big impact and instead have only fallen short of expectations.

Another reason for the players’ lack of consistency is due to constant managerial changes over the years.

United should look to fix this in the upcoming transfer window and adopt a more prudent strategy in their transfer policy.

Branthwaite is a world-class talent with a higher ceiling and has Premier League experience, which makes him perfect for the Red Devils.

United have lacked the steely edge in their backline and the Toffees youngster can provide it. He is among the defenders with a higher percentage of clearances and aerials won, highlighting his robustness.

However, his passing game has been limited due to Everton’s defensive style of play and he certainly needs to work on that front.

Branthwaite can be a perfect foil for Lisandro Martinez once he recovers from his injury. Amorim needs players who can transform the entire squad, and the Everton prospect perfectly fits the bill.
