Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur right-back Pedro Porro.
Los Blancos star Dani Carvajal has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in October. With Nacho Fernandez departing Santiago Bernabeu before the 2024/25 campaign, Carlo Ancelotti has been forced to deploy Lucas Vazquez at right-back.
Thus, the Spanish champions want a new right-back next year to solve one of the important areas of their squad. According to a report from the Spanish outlet Sport, Real Madrid are hot on the trail of Pedro Porro.
Porro, 25, has enjoyed a meteoric rise in stature since the arrival of head coach Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham last year. He is now one of the first names on the teamsheet, racking up 14 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
Since Porro’s arrival at Spurs in January 2023 from Sporting CP, there is no other defender than the Spaniard in the Premier League who has contributed to more goals than him (19), not even Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been involved in 17 goals.
The defender is also slowly becoming a regular in the Spanish national team, having started the UEFA Nations League fixtures recently during the international break in the absence of injured Carvajal.
Pedro Porro to Real Madrid—Right option?
Carvajal has been a great servant for Real Madrid. One of the best right-backs in world football, the Spaniard has played a vital role in helping the Spanish heavyweights win so many trophies in the last six to seven years.
However, he sustained an unfortunate ACL rupture in the 2-0 league win over Villarreal at the start of October, thus, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. By the time the full-back returns to full fitness, he will be 33. Also, in what shape Carvajal returns will be the biggest question Florentino Perez and the chiefs at Santiago Bernabeu must be having in various meetings.
That said, the time will be right next year to sign a potential replacement for Carvajal, and Spurs’ Porro would be a good option. Rapid, agile and attacking, Porro likes to move the ball quickly up the wing and link up with his teammates in the final third of the pitch. He enjoys drifting into midfield and taking up promising positions in the opposition’s half under Ange Postecoglou at Spurs, trying to bring the creative and dynamic side of his game on every occasion.
As an attacking and rampaging full-back, the Don Benito native could learn the tricks of the trade from Carvajal before succeeding him at Madrid. Given Porro has a contract at N17 until June 2028, Tottenham should be in no hurry to part ways with the defender.
So, Madrid will have to pay a premium to persuade Spurs to sell one of their prized assets next year.
