Tottenham Hotspur will look to advance to the last four of the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening when they welcome Manchester United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Lilywhites ended their five-game winless run across all competitions by thrashing Southampton 5-0 away on Sunday in the Premier League. The win also saw them move up to 10th in the table, easing some pressure off Ange Postecoglou’s shoulders.
Tricky Premier League encounters with leaders Liverpool and fourth-placed Nottingham Forest are on the horizon, but first, they must overcome Man United, who head to north London off the back of a 2-1 success in the Manchester derby.
Tottenham Team News
Destiny Udogie was taken off with a tight quad against Southampton, and while he is not injured, Ange Postecoglou confirmed he is a bit sore and remains touch-and-go for the clash against Man United.
Yves Bissouma is available for selection after completing a one-match ban last time out, but Rodrigo Bentancur continues to serve his seven-game suspension. Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert, Ben Davies and Guglielmo Vicario remain out injured.
Predicted Tottenham lineup vs Manchester United (4-3-3)
Goalkeeper
Fraser Forster has done an admirable job since stepping in for the injured No.1 Guglielmo Vicario. The veteran will be hoping to produce another strong display between the sticks when Man United visit Spurs.
Defence
With Romero, Van de Ven and Davies still out, Archie Gray is expected to continue partnering Radu Dragusin at the heart of Tottenham’s defence. They will have to be at their best to keep the Man United front three quiet.
Assuming Destiny Udogie is not 100 per cent fit, Big Ange will go with Djed Spence at left-back with Pedro Porro starting at his original right-back position. The full-backs have to be defensively disciplined against Man United’s wing-backs.
Midfield
Yves Bissouma is available again for selection after his suspension, and the Malian is in line for a recall to the starting XI. He could line up alongside James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski in the middle of the park.
Maddison and Kulusevski—the duo who netted in the big win over Southampton—will be responsible for creating opportunities in the final third. With their creativity, flair and movement, they can make life difficult for Man United. Lucas Bergvall will have to be content with a role on the bench this time around.
Attack
Dominic Solanke will lead the Tottenham attack, flanked by Brennan Johnson and Son Heung-min. Having scored just once in his last eight games, Solanke desperately needs a goal. Son and Johnson will look to provide service to the Englishman in the box.
Timo Werner could get minutes off the bench.
