Manchester United have reportedly made AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders a potential transfer option to bolster their midfield unit in the summer.
The Red Devils are undergoing wholesale internal changes following INEOS CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment into the club. Omar Berrada was poached from rivals Manchester City to take over as the club’s new CEO last month, while Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth is being considered for the Director of Football role. The Mancunian giants have already started making moves behind the scenes, with several signings expected to be made in what will be a crucial summer transfer window.
According to FootballTransfers, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has made AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders a top target for the upcoming window.
Reijnders, 25, arrived at AC Milan in a £16 million deal from AZ Alkmaar last summer, and has become a mainstay in the middle of the park. The Dutchman has turned out 33 times in all competitions, chipping in with two goals and three assists.
However, Man United aren’t the only club interested in the player. The report adds the Premier League side could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who want Reijnders to strengthen their midfield.
Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester United—Good option?
Manchester United are scouring the market for midfield reinforcements heading into the summer transfer window.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, the successful midfield pivot for Erik ten Hag’s side last season, have not had much of an impact this term. Both are well into their 30s and could be moved on in the summer, while loanee Sofyan Amrabat faces an uncertain future. At 18, Kobbie Mainoo needs time and experience to establish himself in Ten Hag’s first XI.
So, it isn’t surprising to see why the Red Devils are looking to invest in a central midfielder, with Tijjani Reijnders emerging as a viable target. Reijnders can play in multiple positions across the midfield, and his energy, off-the-ball work ethic, physicality and technical abilities would make him a smart fit for Ten Hag’s side. Given his versatility, he could either replace Eriksen or Casemiro in the long run.
At 25, the Dutchman would also significantly bring down the current age of the Man United squad. However, he will not come cheap for the Mancunian heavyweights, with Milan expected to ask not less than €60 million for Reijnders, owning to his rollicking form this season and the fact that his contract runs until 2028.
Man United certainly need to inject more quality into their midfield department, and if Ten Hag indeed feels Tijjani Reijnders is the right fit for the side, the club must genuinely try to secure the player’s signature.
