Chelsea are reportedly plotting a shock summer swoop for Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane.
The England international, 30, left boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur last summer to join Bayern Munich in a deal worth around £86m. On a personal level, he has enjoyed a sensational debut season in the Bundesliga, bagging 25 goals and five assists in 22 appearances. However, with the Bavarian giants’ struggling, he is not entirely happy in Germany.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are monitoring Harry Kane’s situation at Bayern Munich amid whispers he could be tempted into a Premier League return.
The Blues were heavily linked with Kane before he decided to join Bayern in 2023. The report adds the west London club, which is now managed by ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, would be willing to match the fee Bayern paid for the striker’s services last year.
Harry Kane to Chelsea—Should the Pensioners attempt a shock move?
Bayern lost again on Sunday—suffering their third defeat in eight days to fall eight points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. But Harry Kane continued his goalscoring form, netting his 29th goal of the season in the 3-2 defeat to Bochum. Given Bayern’s indifferent form and performances, the striker isn’t content at the club, putting Chelsea on red alert.
Chelsea are lacking goals right now as Nicolas Jackson has struggled to settle and live up to his potential, while Christopher Nkunku has endured an injury-hit debut campaign at Stamford Bridge. They are reeling in mid-table with Cole Palmer currently the club’s top scorer with 12 goals. As a result, it isn’t surprising to see Mauricio Pochettino eyeing a top-class centre-forward in the summer.
Harry Kane is world-class and fits the bill perfectly for Chelsea. He has been excellent in Germany, banging goals left, right and centre, and having developed at Spurs under the watchful eyes of Pochettino, he is unsurprisingly tempted to link up again with the Argentinean tactician at Stamford Bridge. The 30-year-old scored 213 Premier League goals for Spurs, and a return to England would allow him to chase down Alan Shearer’s 260-goal top-flight milestone.
The England international would be a major upgrade on Jackson whilst giving Chelsea a much-needed focal point in attack. Harry Kane has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world and would score a lot of goals with creative attackers such as Cole Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Raheem Sterling and Christopher Nkunku around him.
The Blues have the makings of a very good squad and a couple of quality additions could take them to a different level. Adding a player of Kane’s pedigree and experience could transform Chelsea’s attack next season. That said, the Pensioners must not hesitate to splash the cash in the summer for the England skipper’s signature if the opportunity indeed arises.
