Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping tabs on Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.
The English forward, 26, has taken the Premier League by storm this season and only trails Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the Golden Boot race, having scored 11 goals in 18 appearances. He was the hat-trick hero in the Cherries’ 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend, popping up with a last-gasp winner at the Vitality Stadium.
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur have sent scouts to watch Dominic Solanke several times this season, and they will continue to track him into the New Year.
Spurs are also keen on Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, but interest in the Irishman has cooled and Solanke is now viewed as a better prospect. However, they will face competition from bitter north London rivals Arsenal for the Bournemouth hitman’s signature, the report adds.
Dominic Solanke to Tottenham—Right option?
Tottenham have enjoyed a strong first season under Ange Postecoglou, and despite a significant wobble in November, they are sat pretty in fourth place in the Premier League. Postecoglou needs more quality and depth in his squad to realistically challenge the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool for the Premier League title.
As getting the targets in January are often considered difficult, the club has started planning for the 2024 summer transfer window. Postecoglou feels his team needs more depth in the striker department, with Richarlison the only out-and-out No.9. Son Heung-min has led the Spurs attack brilliantly following Harry Kane’s big-money departure to Bayern Munich in the summer, but he will turn 32 in July and the club must start planning for his long-term successor.
Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke has emerged as a target for the north London club. The 26-year-old has been on fire for Andoni Iraola’s side and one more goal would see him double his tally of six Premier League goals from last campaign, underlining what a productive start to the campaign he is enjoying at the Vitality Stadium. The one-cap England international is finally starting to peak and live up to the potential he showed during his early days with Chelsea and Liverpool.
At 26, Solanke would be a solid long-term investment for Tottenham, and he could develop into a top-class striker under the watchful eyes of Postecoglou and his coaching staff. The 26-year-old has thrived at the tip of the attack in an expansive, attacking Iraola’s Bournemouth side, and given how his qualities, he certainly is good enough to play for Spurs.
If Solanke ends the season how he’s begun it, Tottenham will need to pay a premium to get his signature.
