Gordon, Wilson & Almiron In Attack: 4-3-3 Newcastle Predicted XI vs Borussia Dortmund| UCL

Newcastle United will be out there to avenge their home defeat to Borussia Dortmund when they travel to Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday evening in the Champions League.

The Magpies were condemned to their first European loss of the season against Dortmund a fortnight ago, going down 1-0 at St James’ Park to drop below Edin Terzic’s men in Group F. Since then, they have strung together a three-game unbeaten run across all formats, which includes dumping Man United out of the EFL Cup and ending Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the Premier League on Saturday.

Eddie Howe’s side will take a lot of confidence from wins over Man United and Arsenal and will hope to get a result at Dortmund, who are reeling from their 4-0 defeat to rivals Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Newcastle United Team News

Newcastle have suffered a fresh double injury blow ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League Group F clash with Dortmund in Germany. Dan Burn landed awkwardly on his hip against Arsenal and was taken off at half-time, while Jacob Murphy suffered a relapse of a dislocated shoulder on Saturday.

Burn’s availability is yet to be determined, but the Toon Army should definitely be without Murphy, Sven Botman, Matt Target, Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson and Javier Manquillo.

Predicted Newcastle lineup vs Borussia Dortmund (4-3-3)

Goalkeeper

Nick Pope has been a consistent presence in goal for Newcastle once again this season. He is expected to start against Dortmund.

Defence

With Botman still missing, the reinvigorated Jamaal Lascelles will continue partnering Fabian Schar in central defence ahead of Pope in the Newcastle lineup.

Tino Livramento impressed after replacing the injured Burn at half time against Arsenal and deserves to start here. The youngster is expected to start at right-back, which should see the experienced Kieran Trippier operate at left-back on Tuesday in the Newcastle lineup.

Midfield

Bruno Guimaraes picked up his fifth Premier League yellow card of the season on Saturday and will be suspended for Newcastle’s next league game, but he will be fine to join Joelinton and Sean Longstaff in the centre of the park against Dortmund in the Champions League.

With Bruno intercepting passes and initiating counter-attacks, Longstaff and Joelinton will get the license to push forward at times and make things happen in the final third. The trio will also look to ensure Dortmund do not dominate possession too deep in their half.

Attack

As Alexander Isak is still injured, Callum Wilson must shoulder the responsibility of leading the Newcastle attack. Miguel Almiron and Anthony Gordon will provide speed, energy and creativity from wide areas in the Newcastle lineup and provide service for Wilson in the box. The Newcastle front three will need to function well to stretch the Dortmund backline.

Joe Willock, Matt Ritchie and Lewis Hall could come on in the second half to inject fresh impetus and gusto for the visitors.
