Manchester City player ratings vs Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s expertly taken finish earned Liverpool a hard-fought point against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.

Erling Haaland’s 50th top-flight goal looked like it would be enough to earn Manchester City a record-equalling 24th consecutive home win. But the Sky Blues were made to pay for their passivity in the second half as Alexander-Arnold popped up on the edge of the area and arrowed his shot into the far corner past Ederson.

Man City had a chance to snatch all three points at the death as Bernardo Silva saw an effort blocked, not long before Haaland’s header flicked just inches wide from a corner. On that note, let us take a look at how the Man City players fared against Liverpool.

Manchester City Player Ratings vs Liverpool

Ederson—6/10

Ederson made a fine stop to deny Darwin Nunez in the second half, and the Brazilian distributed the ball very well throughout the game. He had no chance to save Alexander-Arnold’s shot.

Kyle Walker—7/10

Kyle Walker did an outstanding job on Jota and tried his best to make himself an option in attack. Overall, it was a solid outing on the right of City’s back three.

Ruben Dias—7/10

Solid and reliable as ever, Ruben Dias distributed the ball and made some great last-ditch tackles and blocks.

Nathan Ake—8/10

Justified his selection over Josko Gvardiol with a clean display. He danced past a couple of players to set up Erling Haaland’s goal and dealt with the threat of Mohamed Salah incredibly well.

Manuel Akanji—7/10

Drove into midfield and helped City control the game along with Rodri. Apart from a loose pass in the first half which Liverpool failed to punish, Manuel Akanji had a tidy outing.

Rodri—7/10

Commanding as usual in midfield and Akanji’s presence allowed him to push higher up the pitch at times. He provided a solid base for City to launch attacks. However, the Spaniard’s control over proceedings reduced in the second half.

Bernardo Silva—8/10

The diminutive Portuguese picked up important pockets of spaces in midfield and created problems for the Liverpool backline with his movement, passing and dribbling. Bernardo Silva’s passing was typically accurate and he rarely gave the ball away. Picked up a yellow card for dissent.

Julian Alvarez—6/10

The Argentinean World Cup winner wasn’t at his sublime best and wasted a few good opportunities on the counter, most notably blazing a shot over when set up by Doku in the second half.

Phil Foden—6/10

Like Alvarez, Phil Foden didn’t really make the Liverpool defenders sweat enough. He had one shot in the first half saved brilliantly by Alisson.

Jeremy Doku—9/10

Undoubtedly City’s best player, Jeremy Doku gave Alexander-Arnold a torrid time and turned him inside out all day long. Dynamic on the ball and regularly drove at the Liverpool defence. The speedy Belgian’s movement and runs in behind create chaos for the visitors.

Erling Haaland—7/10

Pressed excellently and took his goal very well. Not heavily involved and barely had touches in the second half, but the Norwegian striker did his job and almost scored the winner late on.
