Tottenham considering a move for Pedro—Right choice?

Tottenham are reportedly mulling over a move for Flamengo’s Pedro as they prepare for the potential sale of star striker Harry Kane.

Harry Kane will not sign a new contract at Spurs and would be keen to move to Bayern Munich if a deal can be agreed. The England international has entered the final year of his deal and Bayern Munich have had a second offer, worth £68.5 million plus add-ons, rejected. The north London club have seemed unshakable in their stance as Daniel Levy wants an offer of about £100 million to sell his most valuable asset this summer.

According to The Independent, Tottenham are keeping their options open with the future of Kane uncertain and have made Flamengo striker Pedro one of the potential names to replace him.

Pedro, 26, has been in prolific form for Flamengo, with whom he won the Copa Libertadores, and was in the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup. Having struggled in a spell at Fiorentina a few years ago, the Brazilian striker has managed to revive his career back in his homeland with Flamengo, scoring 93 goals in 190 appearances.

Going by Pedro’s impressive displays for Flamengo, the report adds the 26-year-old is among the range of options Spurs are considering.

Pedro to Tottenham—Right choice for Ange Postecoglou’s side?

Tottenham have made some smart signings so far in the transfer window. Dejan Kulusevski, Manor Solomon, James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario have all arrived at the club. Destiny Udogie is also a new signing, although his deal got finalised last summer.

Now that Kane has entered the final year of his contract and is on the radar of Bayern Munich, Ange Postecoglou is looking for potential options to replace the club’s talisman. Kane scored 30 goals and assisted three last season; so, he had another prolific individual campaign at Spurs, and replacing him adequately will be the need of the hour if he is sold to Bayern.

Flamengo star Pedro has attracted interest from Spurs. The 26-year-old has been prolific in Brazil for many years and is keen to prove himself in Europe, having put behind his mediocre spell at Fiorentina in Serie A. It is understood that the move to Fiorentina came too early in his career, and having reinvigorated his career in Brazil, he is now ready for another big challenge in Europe.

The Brazilian international scored 26 goals in 35 appearances for Flamengo in all competitions last season, so he certainly knows where the goal is. Thus, it is easy to see why Spurs are interested in Flamengo’s services, with the striker valued at around €30m. This means Pedro shouldn’t break the bank for Spurs and Postecoglou would be able to get an exciting striker in his squad to potentially fill in Kane’s void.

Nonetheless, signing Pedro is a gamble for Tottenham as the best years of his career have been in Brazil, but his record of 93 goals and 21 assists in Flamengo colours is too good to ignore.
