Top 3 Tottenham Players In The 2022-23 Season: South Korean Superstar Misses Out

A campaign which began with so much promise and even talk of a title challenge under Antonio Conte has ended with Tottenham Hotspur finishing eighth and missing out on a place in Europe.

The Tottenham faithful have been treated to a woeful campaign, having watched their side crumble following Conte’s sacking and fail to qualify for any European tournament for the first time in over a decade.

Embroiled in a fight for the top four with Manchester United and Newcastle United for the majority of the campaign, Spurs failed to gather any momentum under interim managers Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason and finished behind the likes of Liverpool, Brighton and Aston Villa. The north London club’s bid to end a 15-year trophy drought failed to bear fruit as they ended the most recent campaign without adding to their trophy cabinet.

It is a difficult task to pick out the best players from an underperforming and hugely inconsistent side, but three Spurs players did well this campaign amidst the turmoil. Here are they:

#Harry Kane

If there is anything that has further been demonstrated this season is that even if all around him at Tottenham throw their toys out of the pram and underperform, Harry Kane will continue scoring goals.

With Son Heung-min enduring a horrible campaign, Richarlison failing to deliver the goods after his summer move from Everton and Dejan Kulusevski going off the boil after a promising start, Kane took it upon himself to lead the Tottenham charge and broke the 20-goal barrier overall for the ninth season running. With 30 league goals, he finished second only behind Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland.

To score 30 league goals in a broken and underwhelming Spurs side while registering three assists is truly an achievement for Kane.

#Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was the only bright spark in an otherwise dysfunctional Tottenham midfield. He was relatively more consistent than his teammates in the middle of the park, making nine-goal contributions in 35 Premier League appearances.

The Denmark international had formed a strong partnership with Rodrigo Bentancur in the Tottenham engine room, but the Uruguayan’s unfortunate ACL injury largely affected his form. Hojbjerg’s performance levels dipped and he never quite recovered after that, although he had an overall decent individual season.

#Pape Sarr

Barely got chances but when handed opportunities, he showed promise, especially against AC Milan away in the Champions League.

At 20, Pape Sarr is raw and inexperienced, and Spurs fanbase would hope that the Senegalese midfielder can get chances to impress and improve under newly appointed permanent manager Ange Postecoglou.
