West Ham Renew Interest In La Liga Attacking Ace: Right Option To Bolster The Attack?

West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri in this January transfer window, as David Moyes looks to bolster his attacking options.

The Hammers were interested in signing the Morocco international back in January 2021, but Sevilla rejected their advances, despite rumours of a £30m bid being launched. In fact, the striker himself had rejected the Premier League club’s offer instantly.

According to the Athletic, West Ham have revived their interest in Youssef En-Nesyri, on the back of an excellent 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar. He netted twice in seven games for Morocco, including the winner in the quarter-finals against Portugal.

Youssef En-Nesyri, 25, is yet to open his account for Sevilla this season, after scoring five times in 23 La Liga appearances last term. His club form has not deterred West Ham and they could push for a loan deal in January, with a purchase clause at the end of the season. The report adds the Hammers have reached out to the striker’s representatives over a possible deal, with Sevilla eyeing £25m.

Youssef En-Nesyri to West Ham—A smart buy for the Hammers?

West Ham are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the Premier League this season, with just 15 goals scored from 18 games. Big-money summer signing Gianluca Scamacca has struggled to hit the ground running in the Premier League, while Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma have blown hot and cold.

David Moyes clearly needs fresh blood and inspiration in his attack to score a lot more goals than his team have accumulated so far this season. Recent signings like Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet and Lucas Paqueta have been hugely disappointing, so they would do well to bring in a new attacker as an upgrade.

The Irons, as things stand, are looking to sign Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri on loan for the rest of the campaign. En-Nesyri joined Sevilla from Leganes in 2020 and has netted 40 goals in 125 appearances. The 25-year-old has performed very well during his time in Seville, though it would also be fair to say that his form this season has been hugely disappointing.

The centre-forward’s stock was at an all-time low before going to the Qatar World Cup, where he managed to get some form and confidence back with two goals in seven outings. En-Nesyri has been impressive in previous campaigns for Sevilla, demonstrating that he has the quality to find the back of the net on a regular basis if given decent service in the box. The Moroccan can link play, hold the ball up and also run the channels, and that coupled with his energy and work rate, could make him a good fit at West Ham.

Youssef En-Nesyri has the qualities to thrive in the hustle and bustle of Premier League football, and if he can hit the ground running, the Sevilla hitman would undoubtedly represent a solid addition to West Ham’s current attacking unit.
