West Ham Set To Revive Interest In Moroccan Marksman: Much Needed For The Hammers?

West Ham United are reportedly set to revive their interest in Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri in the January transfer window.

The Moroccan international has previously been a target for the Hammers, who wanted to sign him last summer. They were also interested in the past summer transfer window, but their advances were knocked back by Sevilla.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Sevilla are open to offloading Youssef En-Nesyri amidst sustained interest from West Ham. The forward has a number of suitors in the Premier League and Sevilla are hoping that he produces impressive displays at the World Cup in order to ignite a bidding war between the clubs in January, the report adds.

En-Nesyri, 25, enjoyed his best campaign in Sevilla colours in 2020/21, when he netted 24 goals across all competitions. The centre-forward has since struggled to be as prolific and is yet to break his duck in La Liga this term.

The Moroccan has scored twice in the Champions League in four games but isn’t a first-choice under Jorge Sampaoli, who returned to Seville in October to replace the sacked Julen Lopetegui.

Youssef En-Nesyri to West Ham—The right option for David Moyes?

West Ham have not enjoyed a great season under David Moyes and currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, just a point above the relegation zone. They are yet to click as a unit, and despite the additions of some really good players over the summer, the Irons find themselves in a spot of bother.

Moyes certainly must be thinking of reinforcing his squad in the winter market to push his team far away from the dreaded relegation zone. One area the West Ham boss must prioritise is the attack, with summer signing Gianluca Scamacca yet to start justifying his big price tag since his arrival from Sassuolo and the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini underperforming so far this season.

With Michail Antonio ageing and remaining injury prone, a new striker to complement Scamacca could help the Hammers. Youssef En-Nesyri, in that regard, would be a good fit at the London Stadium.

En-Nesyri certainly hasn’t been anywhere close enough to the level of goal-scoring performances he produced two seasons ago. He has looked shorn of confidence, energy and enthusiasm this season which perhaps may suggest that Sevilla are looking to cash in on him during the mid-season trading period.

But that could all change with an eye-catching World Cup with the Morocco national team. En-Nesyri possesses the technical qualities to go with his pace and physical traits, which make him a real handful for defenders to deal with in and around the box. Moyes is apparently a fan of the player having attempted to sign him a number of times in the last couple of years.

If Youssef En-Nesyri can enjoy a fruitful World Cup in Qatar and show some signs of regaining his lost touch, West Ham would be wise to revive their interest in the Sevilla forward.
