After the midweek European nights, we are set to witness a weekend chock-a-block with Premier League action, which includes Liverpool hosting Leeds United at Anfield and Manchester City travelling to the King Power Stadium to play Leicester City.
Arsenal are at the summit of the Premier League and will want to bounce back to winning ways after dropping points at Southampton last time out, while Nottingham Forest looks to build on the impressive win against Liverpool.
Without much delay, let’s take a look at the things to look forward to in Premier League Matchweek 14:
#Liverpool’s response to the Nottingham Forest defeat
Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game as Nottingham Forest stunned Liverpool at the boisterous City Ground last weekend, which was a new low for Jurgen Klopp’s side this term.
The loss against Nottingham Forest left the Reds with no wins on the road so far in the Premier League, with Klopp stating a case of “us against ourselves” after his team’s profligacy in front of goal. It was another blow in their quest to finish in the top four after the title hopes have long been evaporated.
The back-to-back wins over Man City and West Ham United gave Liverpool a base to build upon, but the defeat to Forest brought them back to square one. Come Saturday at home to Leeds United, Klopp would expect a rousing response from his Liverpool side. But will his boys deliver the goods?
#Can Nottingham Forest upset high-flying Arsenal?
Nottingham Forest produced their best performance of the season when they beat Liverpool 1-0 at the City Ground courtesy of a second-half strike from Taiwo Awoniyi.
The Tricky Trees may still be bottom of the Premier League but the improvements in the way the team is playing since Steven Cooper’s tweaks in recent weeks are clear for everyone to see. In the last four games, they have conceded just twice—a sign of a team showing defensive resilience after being hammered at the hands of Midlands rivals Leicester City earlier this month.
Up next for Cooper’s Forest side is a trip to the Emirates Stadium to play league leaders Arsenal. The victory over Liverpool has given fans hope and belief, and if the Reds can stay compact, disciplined and stick to their plan at the Emirates Stadium, another scalp in the form of Arsenal could just be possible.
#Erling Haaland to continue his scoring spree?
We’ve already gotten so used to seeing Manchester City’s new star Erling Haaland scoring that his blank in the defeat to Liverpool came as a surprise. However, he bounced back from the disappointment of not scoring at Anfield with a brace in the 3-1 win over Brighton at home last weekend.
Before his double against Brighton, Haaland had netted impressive hat-tricks against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United in the Premier League. With 17 goals already in the league this season, the Norwegian goal-machine is just six shy of the mark Son Heung-min and Mohamed Salah amassed to be joint top-scorers last term.
Leicester City are next to host Man City in a Saturday lunchtime kick-off, and despite Brendan Rodgers’ side turning around a corner of late, stopping Haaland could be too big of a task for them.
