Newcastle Mulling A Transfer For Attacking Argentine Ace: Decent Option For Howe?

Newcastle United are reportedly plotting a January move to sign Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa.

The Magpies have made a solid start to the 2022/23 season, and look well set to fight for a top 6 finish. The club is reaping rewards for their impressive recruitment drive under the new Saudi owners, as Eddie Howe continues to rebuild his squad.

According to Calciomercato, Newcastle United are interested in making a move for Inter Milan’s Joaquin Correa when the transfer window reopens in January.

Correa, 28, joined Inter Milan on a year-long loan deal with an obligation to buy from Lazio last summer. However, a combination of injuries and inconsistency has not allowed the Argentinean international to produce his best form for the Nerazzurri so far. He has played nine games in Serie A this season, racking up only two goals and an assist.

Unhappy with his situation at Inter, Correa wants to leave the club next year with the Serie A side open to entertaining offers amidst interest from Newcastle, the report adds.

Joaquin Correa to Newcastle United—Right option for Eddie Howe?

Newcastle United continue to show progress under the management of Eddie Howe, thus, justifying the new owners’ decision to spend huge sums on players in the last two transfer windows. In Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman, Alexander Isak and Nick Pope, the Magpies have a strong spine in the squad to build upon.

Despite spending big on Isak in the past transfer window, Eddie Howe is planning to invest again in a forward. Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson’s persistent injury issues have not boded well with Newcastle’s game plan. In addition, Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy and Chris Wood have not been consistent enough.

Thus, Howe wants to add an experienced face to his attack, making Joaquin Correa a good fit at St James’ Park. Capable of playing anywhere across the front three, Correa will add quality and depth to Newcastle’s attack, while bringing competition within the squad. The Argentinean has the attributes to make an instant impact in the Premier League, potentially making him a solid acquisition for the Magpies.

Newcastle have enjoyed a good start to the campaign and will be desperate to retain their place in the top six come the end of the season. Signing a versatile and experienced forward like Joaquin Correa could galvanise Howe’s side in January. Apart from pace, creativity and directness, the ex-Lazio man will add goals to the side too.

As he has failed to live up to the expectations at Inter and is keen on leaving the club, Newcastle’s exciting project under Howe could be tempting for Correa.
