The January transfer window can provide teams with a way of getting their campaign back on track after an underwhelming start. While the next transfer window is still three months away, let us take a look at 3 Premier League clubs that must look to strengthen in January.
#Leicester City
Leicester City were the lowest Premier League spenders in the summer transfer window, signing only two players—Alex Smithies and Wout Faes. Their lack of investment to build on last season’s eight-place finish has cost them dearly, with Brendan Rodgers’ side reeling at the bottom of the table level on points with Nottingham Forest having played a game more.
The Foxes need key additions in almost every department of the squad. They have won just one game in the Premier League this season, a 4-0 trouncing of the seemingly doomed Nottingham Forest and are firmly mired in a relegation battle already. New signings are an absolute must if Leicester City want to avoid the drop.
#Bournemouth
A poor start to the new Premier League season saw Bournemouth sack Scott Parker and install Gary O’Neil as their caretaker manager.
Gary O’Neil is unbeaten in five games as interim head coach, drawing games with Wolves and Newcastle United either side of a pulsating 3-2 comeback victory over Nottingham Forest to start things off well. They have further drawn against Brentford and came from behind to beat Leicester City 2-1 to firmly turn around their fortunes. He will be desperate to succeed in his interim role and get the permanent keys to the club.
If O’Neil continues to impress in the coming weeks before the World Cup commences, he is likely to be handed the reigns of the club on a permanent basis.
Should that happen, the 39-year-old is bound to demand a few new signings in January to help the club avoid the drop at the first time of asking and build towards a respectable finish in the Premier League.
#Arsenal
Arsenal have enjoyed a fantastic start to the new campaign and are top of the table after nine games.
Mikel Arteta’s side play nine games in October and even though they have got off to a brilliant start to the month, putting Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool to the sword either side of comfortably seeing off Bodo/Glimt, some feel the Gunners are still light in a couple of areas which could prove to be costly towards the business end of the season.
Only time will tell what Arsenal’s position will be at the New Year, but Arteta should seek to reinforce his squad in the winter transfer window to prolong this surprising but determined Premier League title charge and sustain it deep into the season, with Manchester City breathing down their neck.
