Bundesliga Star Open To A Move To Chelsea

Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard would be willing to join Chelsea this summer if the Premier League club makes a serious offer.

The Blues are on the hunt for another central defender after Jules Kounde decided to join Barcelona and Matthijs de Ligt moved to Bayern Munich from Juventus. They could also lose club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, with Barcelona ready to make a move for the Spanish defender and have already informed the player of their intentions.

According to reliable BILD journalist Christian Falk, Benjamin Pavard is open to the idea of swapping Bayern Munich for Chelsea.

Pavard, 26, has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this week. The French World Cup winner, who moved to Bayern Munich from Stuttgart in 2019, has been identified as one of the names on the Blues’ four-man wishlist after Thomas Tuchel missed out on the signing of Kounde.

Benjamin Pavard to Chelsea—Should the Blues make a serious offer?

Benjamin Pavard has been a consistent performer for Bayern Munich ever since he arrived from Stuttgart three years ago. The 26-year-old has made close to 120 appearances for the Bavarian giants, winning three Bundesliga titles and a Champions League among nine major honours in the process.

However, the Frenchman is likely to lose his starting berth under Julian Nagelsmann at the Allianz Arena after the summer signings of Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt, so a move away from Bayern could benefit him largely. A switch to Chelsea, in that regard, could be ideal for Pavard, who should play regularly to harbour hopes of making it to the French squad for the Qatar World Cup.

Pavard remains one of Tuchel’s preferred defensive targets, considering the profile of the Frenchman fits perfectly with Chelsea’s requirements. The 26-year-old can operate almost anywhere across the backline, and a player with such versatility often adds a lot of value to the side. He has been plying his trade at the highest level for almost eight years and might not take long to get to grips in the Premier League.

If Cesar Azpilicueta decides to follow his ex-teammate, Andreas Christensen, to Barcelona, Pavard would just be the perfect replacement for the veteran Spaniard as he can fill the same role at Chelsea. In Tuchel’s preferred 3-4-2-1/3-4-3 system, he can either play on the right of the back three or at right wing-back.

The ex-Stuttgart man would immediately improve the Blues’ defensive options, whilst being a solid player to compete with Reece James for the right wing-back spot. Plus, his wealth of experience and winning mentality could go a long way in helping Tuchel’s side in competing for top prizes.

Thus, Chelsea must not waste further time and make a serious offer to sign Pavard from Bayern.
