Ronaldo Out, Rashford In – Predicted 4-2-3-1 Manchester United Lineup vs Liverpool

Manchester United travel to Liverpool on Tuesday looking to put a dent in their long-time rivals’ Premier League title challenge whilst gaining ground in the top-four race.

Losses for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend have opened the door for United and a result at Anfield will go a long way in boosting their Champions League hopes.

But they have a huge task on their hands. Liverpool are gunning for an unprecedented quadruple and have won their last 10 home games in the league. They are also coming off a 3-2 victory against title rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup, a game they dominated for the most part.

Moreover, Manchester United have scored in just one of their last six games against the Merseyside club in all competitions and were blown out of the water in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, losing 5-0.

Manchester United Team News

Ralf Rangnick will be without as many as five players for the trip to Anfield. Fred, Edinson Cavani, Scott McTominay, Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane have all been ruled out of the game.

But Bruno Fernandes, who was involved in a car crash on Friday en route to team training, was unharmed and is available.

Cristiano Ronaldo revealed on Monday that one of his newborn twins has sadly passed away. The Portuguese will be given a compassionate leave, so he will not make the Manchester United lineup.

Manchester United Predicted Lineup vs Liverpool (4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper

David de Gea may have kept just seven clean sheets in the Premier League this season, but the Spaniard’s been one of Manchester United’s most important players, often bailing them out of trouble.

Defenders

Diogo Dalot appears to have made the right-back spot his own under Rangnick and the Portuguese should start ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

With Varane out, Victor Lindelof is expected to partner Harry Maguire in central defence. The Englishman has had a dismal season so far, but a captain’s performance against an opponent of Liverpool’s calibre could serve as a catalyst for him to turn his fortunes around.

Alex Telles will keep his spot at left-back in the Manchester United lineup in Luke Shaw’s absence.

Midfielders

A lack of options means Nemanja Matic, who is set to depart the club at the end of the season, will start at the base of the midfield. He will likely be accompanied by Bruno Fernandes and the mercurial Paul Pogba. Both Pogba and Fernandes will have to take on more defensive responsibilities given the threat Liverpool pose.

Attackers

Anthony Elanga showed flashes of his potential against Norwich at the weekend, providing an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal. The Swede will likely keep Marcus Rashford out of the starting line-up once again.

Jadon Sancho is expected to start on the left flank, with Marcus Rashford leading the line. Manchester United will miss Ronaldo, who netted the 60th hat-trick of his career in the 3-2 win against Norwich City this past weekend.

Rashford hasn’t had the best of seasons, but a good display against Liverpool will do him a world of good in the final stretch of the season.
